Symbian phones are very versatile and one cool feature of Symbian powered phones is that it can be used to download torrents. Not many people are aware of it. There are plenty of torrent clients available exclusively for smartphones. One famous app that can be installed on Symbian phones for downloading torrents is SymTorrent.

With SymTorrent you can download more than one torrent file simultaneously. You can seed them and when you exit the application while downloading a torrent file, the downloading will not stop but go into pause mode. SymTorrent is available for free and it can be downloaded from web. This app works on many Nokia phones that run on Symbian S60 3rd and 5th edition phones and Symbian S60 2nd edition phones. Here are steps on using SymTorrent on downloading torrents through it:

1. Download the SymTorrent app from Softpedia.com.

2. By connecting your phone to your computer either by Bluetooth or USB cable, transfer a torrent file to a known location on your phone’s memory card. You can even download torrent files from the web by accessing torrent sites from your phone’s browser.

3. Launch the SymTorrent app and then select ‘Add torrent’ option. Next, you need to browse to the location where your torrent files are stored. Select the torrent file and downloading will automatically start and you will be to see live status of upload and download on the interface of the app.

One drawback of this app is that it does not let the users select upload and download limit. This is not a big problem and we expect that there will be a fix for this problem in the newer version that may release later.

Some things you should remember before using SymTorrent are:

1. You need to have a legal tracker because there are plenty of illegal trackers.

2. This app is not recommended for people with limited internet plan as it will bring in heavy expenses. It is advisable to use this app only if you have Wi-Fi internet connection. You are also advised to have unlimited 3G, GPRS or EDGE plan to use this app. Remember that you are going to download hundreds of MBs and if you are on a limited internet plan, you may not be able to bear the large amount of internet charges.

3. Another important thing is to check the available storage space on the memory card of the phone before you initiate the downloading of apps. A minimum storage memory of 4G is sufficient for downloading torrents.
