Microsoft Kin One is a low cost phone that sports the Microsoft’s Kin OS. Another recent phone from Microsoft powered Kin OS is the Microsoft Kin Two phone which we will review very soon. Verizon brings this Kin One to the market with a two-year contract. Holding the Kin One is such a delight. It measures 82.7 x 63.5 x 19.1mm and weighs only 110.6g. The phone is made up of dark grey colored plastic composite mixture which makes the phone sturdy and does not catch scratches easily. The edges of the phone are rounded.

The QVGA capacitive touch screen display of the phone measures 2.6 inches and has a display resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. Images appear quite sharp and also appear very clear even if you view it from different angles. However, the clarity is lost when you view the phone under sunlight. Sliding the display upwards gives you access to the QWERTY keyboard. While typing, you can hold the phone single-handedly or two-handedly. The phone does not have an on-screen keyboard. The buttons that are present outside of the keyboard include volume controller, camera launcher and display-lock button. Read more

In the recent past, we have reviewed many TouchWiz phones from Samsung and here comes another phone that is powered with the TouchWiz – Samsung Impression powered by AT&T. The phone looks pretty cool and sleek and it measures 114 x 58 x 15mm and weighs 150g which make the phone slightly bulky. The body of the phone is made of blue colored plastic with chrome accents. It has got rounded corners and it feels good to hold this phone.

The Samsung Impression A877 truly impressed us with the AMOLED capactive touchscreen. It has got a display resolution of 240 x 400 pixels and measures 3.2 inches and is capable of displaying 256k colors. We did not face many problems in viewing the display under direct sunlight or any other lighting conditions. Below the display, there are three buttons namely, send, end and back/clear.

On the top right hand side corner above the display, you can find the proximity sensor and light sensor. On the left side of the phone, you can find the volume controller and on the right hand side, you can find a dedicated button for launching camera and screen lock key. At the top, you can find the USB port that can be used for transferring data and charging. On the back, you can find the 3 megapixel camera with flash and loud speaker. You can access the SIM card slot and microSD slot by uncovering the back panel. Sliding the display from left to right will give you access to the four row QWERTY keyboard. The keys on the keyboard are very comfortable and evenly spaced. Read more

Palm Pixi Plus from Verizon Wireless has almost the same features that can be found on Sprint’s Palm Pixi. The phone is slim and the design has been kept simple. It has got a capactive TFT touchscreen display that measures 2.63 inches with a display resolution of 320 x 400 pixels and supports 256k colors. It supports multi-touch. We noticed that the accelerometer of the phone did not function well as it delayed to rotate the display vertically or horizontally whenever we held the phone vertically and horizontally.

At the top side of the phone, you can find the 3.5mm audio headset jack and a power button. On the right side of the phone, you can find the volume controller, mute button and microUSB slot. At the left side, you can find the speakers, camera launcher key and LED flash at the rear. The keyboard is a bit tacky and new users will find it difficult to make use of it. However, after you use it for a few days, you will get the hang of it. The keys are small in size but have been spaced well. Read more
