BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105 Review

9105 phone 300x260 BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105 ReviewBlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105 is very similar to its predecessor 9100 model, however this phone comes with a 14-key traditional keypad instead of the QWERTY keyboard. It is an entry level smartphone device and even though it has got simple looks, it appears to be a high-end device. It measures 108 x 50 x 13.3 mm and is a very lightweight phone as it weighs only 93.6 g. It has got TFT display screen that measures 2.3 inches and manages to provide you with crisp viewing experience. You will be able to view the display clearly outdoors only if you set the brightness to its highest setting.

The good old trackball of BlackBerry is replaced with optical track-pad on the Pearl 3G. The usual buttons like send, end, back and menu can be found around the track-pad. On the left side of the BlackBerry Pearl 3G, you can find the 3.5 mm audio jack, the microUSB port which can be used for data transfer as well as for charging, and the left convenience key. The volume controller and the right convenience key that is available for starting the camera application are located on the right. You can find music controls located on the top side of the phone. Turning the phone to its back will give you access to the 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash.

The BlackBerry Pearl 3G has got 624 MHz processor and 256MB RAM and runs on BlackBerry OS 5. It would have been better if the phone came with the newer version of the OS. The phone comes preloaded with 512MB microSD and can be replaced with a maximum of 32GB microSD. As far personalization is concerned, you are only limited to change wallpaper and add icons to the homescreen. You can sync the address book by making use of Google Sync. You can easily setup email accounts on this phone by inputting your email address and password. When it comes to social networking, Facebook, Twitter and MySpace apps are what you get. The usual AT&T apps such as AT&T Maps, AT&T Navigator for GPS, AT&T Radio, etc are also available on this phone.

blackberry pearl 3G BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105 ReviewThe images captured through 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera are not impressive and the photos appear even worse when taken in low lighting conditions. From this we can understand that even the LED flash is not able to improve the quality of the images. You can record videos at resolution of 640 x 480 at 23 fps. The audio clarity of the phone is quite good. The sound is very clear and audible and you will simply enjoy listening to music on the BlackBerry Pearl 3G. However, there is nothing special about watching videos on this phone. With landscape orientation and ability to play MP4 files of 640 x 480 pixels, you have not got many options on this phone.

The BlackBerry Pearl 3G lets you browse on the web on Wi-Fi and on 3G speeds of HSUPA and 3.6Mbps on HSDPA. Even though the web browser is good and renders pages quickly, the size of the screen is quite small for enjoying web browsing. Opera Mini and Bolt Browser are the two web browser available on the phone. The standard 1500 Li-Ion mAh battery gives a standby time of 312 hours on 3G and talk time of up to 5 hours on 3G.
