LG Ally Review – Android Phone with Cool Features

lg ally phone 300x208 LG Ally Review – Android Phone with Cool FeaturesPowered by Verizon, LG Ally is the new Android phone that has got cool features and is often compared with other Android phones like HTC DROID ERIS and Motorola DEVOUR. Like Motorola DEVOUR, the LG Ally is a slider phone. The overall design of the LG Ally VS740 is not the best and it just looks any other large screen display phone. It has got rounded corners and it measures 4.56 x 2.22 x 0.62 inches. The phone is slightly on a bulky side as it weighs 158g. The phone’s body is made up of plastic and appears to be quite durable.

The capactive touchscreen of the LG Ally measures 3.2 inches. It is a WVGA display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and is capable of displaying 262k colors. The display of the HTC DROID ERIS and Motorola DEVOUR are of similar size but has less resolution. Images and text appear crisp and clear but becomes unclear when you view it under direct sunlight. Below the display screen, you can find two touch-sensitive buttons meant for back and search and also you can find four physical buttons meant for send, home, menu and end/screen lock/power. Above the display, there is a small notification light that displays different colors for notifying new message, call alerts, low battery, and charging.

On the right side of the LG Ally VS740, you can find the camera shutter and microSD slot whereas on the left you can access the volume controller and microUSB slot. The 3.5mm audio jack can be found on the top. At the rear is located the 3.2MP camera with LED flash. Slide the display horizontally and you will be able to see the 4-row QWERTY keyboard which is very easy to use for writing text messages and emails.

Even the navigational d-pad located at the right side of the keyboard responds well. Since LG Ally runs on Android 2.1, the phone’s performance is quite good and it provides the user to choose from 5 home screens. The Live Wallpapers feature automatically changes the wallpaper depending on the time of the day, the songs that you are listening and by touching the display. The voice command app gives accurate result when you make search by saying a search query. The usual Verizon apps can also be found on the LG Ally VS740.

It allows you to record videos at 25fps with a resolution of 640 x 800 pixels. The 3D overhaul automatically sorts image and video files according to location and date. The video player can play DivX and Xvid video formats. The music player has features like cover art, displays song info but lacks equalizer. The sound output through the earphone and loud speaker is average.

For aGPS, you can make use of Google Maps. You can surf on the web at 3G speed and Wi-Fi. The Webkit web browser is very user-friendly; however, it lacks Flash. You can access your Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files through ThinkFree Office application. The internal memory of the LG Ally VS740 is 256MB and can read up to 32GB of microSD. The Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery gives a talk time of over 7.5 hours and stand-by time of nearly 500 hours.
