LG Optimus GT540 Review

GW620 was the first Android smartphone from LG and the new chic Optimus GT540 is the second Android smartphone from the manufacturer. The phone measures 109 x 54.5 x 12.7mm and weighs only 115g. The body of the phone is made up of plastic and is well textured with brushed metal. It has got TFT resistive touchscreen display that measures 3.0 inches and is capable of displaying 256k colors at a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels.

Below the resistive display, you can find resistive buttons for Menu and Back and below these buttons, you can find the physical buttons for Send, Home and End. On the lower right side, you can find the Android search button along with the camera shutter. The volume rocker is located on the left of the phone. At the rear, you can find 3MP autofocus camera minus flash.

The sad thing about LG Optimus phone is that it has got an obsolete version of Android OS – 1.6 Donut. The phone is powered by 600 Mhz processor and has got 156MB RAM. The internal memory of the phone is 139 MB and the external memory can read up to 32 GB of microSD.

Thanks to LG’s own software, you can choose from three to seven home screens. The LG Optimus is a good phone for social networking and it has got apps like Facebook, Twitter and Bebo. Your social network contacts and updates can be integrated with the phonebook. Setting up email accounts is very simple and easy on this phone. The preloaded document viewer allows to view and edit PDF and MS-Office files.

The 3 megapixel camera is capable of taking decent photos outside. However, it fails miserably when the lighting is less. You can record VGA videos at 17fps. You can enjoy videos of various formats such as MP4, DivX and H.264 on this phone. The Android browser on the phone is good but lacks Flash. The phone allows you to get connected to the web through 3G at HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and WLAN. The Google Maps application comes preloaded on the LG Optimus for mapping. The standard 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery gives a standby time of up to 500 hours on 3G and up to 7 hours talk time on 3G.
