Motorola Droid X Review

images 3 Motorola Droid X ReviewVerizon Wireless has introduced a new Motorola phone with Android OS – Motorola Droid X M8810. This phone is the successor to the original Motorola Droid A855 that was released last year. The phone weighs 155g and measures 127.5 x 65.5 x 9.9 mm. It comes with a TFT capactive touchscreen display that measures 4.3 inches and has a FWVGA display resolution of 480 x 854 pixels and is capable of displaying up to 16m colors.  It goes without saying that phone is bulky; however, the guys at Motorola have tried their best to make the phone as thin as possible.

Below the display of Motorola Droid X, there are four physical buttons namely Menu, Home, Back and Search. On the left side of the phone, you can find the microUSB and micro HDMI video port.  On the top, there is power and display lock button along with the 3.5mm audio jack.  On the right side, there is a volume controller and camera launcher. At the rear, there is an 8MP camera with flash and external speaker. The microSDHC slot can be accessed by opening the back panel.
The Motorola Droid X runs on Android 2.1 OS which provides the user with 7 home screens. In the late summer, Motorola has announced that the OS will be updated to Android 2.2 (Froyo). The internal memory of the phone is 8GB with 512MB RAM. It can detect up to 32GB of memory. The phone is powered with OMAP3630 720Mhz processor and PowerVR SGX530 GPU which produces snappy performance.

images 4 Motorola Droid X ReviewYou can setup IMAP, POP3 and Exchange email accounts. You can make use of social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Picasa, Photobucket, and Twitter on Motorola Droid X. The home screen allows you to add messages widgets which will let you see your text messages and emails. You can also add social networking widget on the home screen to get update from all your buddies. The News widget helps you fetch latest news from Digg, Fox Sports, Reuters, and USA Today.

The 8MP autofocus camera with dual LED flash is excellent as it takes amazing photographs in any lighting conditions. It has got features like geo-tagging, 8 scene modes, and 8 color effects, face detection, etc. Videos can be recorded at 1280 x 720 pixels at 24 frames per second and also at lower resolutions at 30 frames per second. The stock Android 2.1 music player has got features like album art and equalizer presets. The sound through the loudspeaker was not loud enough and even the sound output through boxed headset was found to be good. We felt the same even when we listened to the FM Radio on the Motorola Droid X.

You can connect to the web on 3G at 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and at 2.0 Mbps HSUPA and also through WLAN. The Webkit browser has features like multitouch pinch-to-zoom, double tap for zooming, allows you to open 8 windows at a time, bookmarks and 3D side-to-side scrolling. The YouTube videos that are embedded on webpage are opened separately on the YouTube player. The other feature present on the phone includes Bluetooth and assisted GPS. The standard Li-Po 1540 mAh battery gives a talk time of 8 hours and over 9 days of stand-by time.
