The first touch sensitive phone from Nokia – 5800 XpressMusic was an instant hit because it had all the features and came with an affordable price tag. The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is the second touch sensitive phone from Nokia. As compared to Nokia 5800, the Nokia 5530 is low on configuration. Even though the phone is not aesthetically beautiful, it looks very similar to Nokia 5800 and its build appears to be very solid and durable. The phone weighs 107g and measures 104 x 49 x 13mm.
The resistive touch screen display screen measures 2.9 inches which is less than the display size of Nokia 5800 which measures 3.2 inches. It has a display resolution of 360 x 640 pixels and is capable of displaying 16m colors. On the left side of the phone, you can find the microSD and SIM card slots and on the right there is a volume controller, display screen lock and camera launcher. On the top side of the phone, you can find the microUSB slot, 3.5mm audio jack, charger port and power button. At the rear, there is a camera with flash and stylus compartment.
The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is powered with Symbian s60 5th edition OS which can be found on Nokia 5800, Nokia N97, Samsung Omnia HD i8910 and Sony Ericsson Vivaz. The best part about this OS is that many new updates have been released in the recent past which also includes kinetic scrolling. On the home screen, there is a contact bar where you can add 20 contacts and you can scroll it by sliding a finger on it. You can also add 4 of your favorite apps on the home screen. Creating a text message or email is quite easy as it has got plenty of typing options such as full sized onscreen QWERTY keyboard, virtual alphanumeric keypad, and handwriting recognition.
The internal memory of the phone is 70MB and comes with a 4GB external microSD memory. The external memory can read up to 16GB of microSD. The ARM 11 434Mhz processor brings about snappy performance. Data transfer can be done through USB and v2.0 Bluetooth. The music player has equalizer presets and lets you filter tracks by artist, album, playlist, etc. There is stereo FM radio with RDS. Sound quality through the loudspeaker is great but we did not like the boxed earphones. We recommend you to use your own 3.5mm earphone. You will love watching videos on this phone.
The interface of the 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash is the same as the one present on Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia N97. Snaps lack detail when taken in dim light and even though flash fires every time you take snap in dim light. Snaps taken in bright light are passable. Captured videos are good and the clarity of the sound on captured videos is great.
The limited Flash supported internet browser is the same that is found in Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia N97. The pages load fast and you can tap on the screen twice to zoom into the page. You can connect to the web through GPRS and WLAN only; this means there is no 3G feature on this phone. There is no GPS feature on this phone. The standard Li-Ion 1000 mAh battery gives a standby time of over 300 hours and nearly 5 hours of talk time and since it is a music phone, it lets you enjoy continuous music for up to 27 hours.
