After launching many Pantech cell phones for AT&T that specialized in text messaging into the market last year, Pantech has now finally tried its luck in full touchscreen arena. The size of the phone is just 93.2 x 63.8 x 14.7mm and weighs 129.8g. The display of the phone is of 2.8 inches only. The QVGA resistive touchscreen display is capable of supporting 262k colors. However, the quality of the display is not impressive. It has a display resolution of 240 x 400 pixels.
Below the display, there are touch sensitive buttons that are meant for functions – Send, End and Back/Clear. On the left side of the phone, you can find microSD memory card slot and volume controller. On the right side of the phone, you can find the proprietary USB port which can be used for performing data transfer as well as charging the phone. On the right side, you can also find other buttons such as quick menu access button, display lock/unlock button and camera launcher. At the rear, there is a 2 megapixel camera along with the speakerphone. You can access the SIM card and back cover by uncovering the back panel.
Pantech Pursuit’s interface is similar to the Samsung TouchWiz interface. It has got three home screens. The left home screen contains the shortcuts of applications. The middle one only displays the clock. The right one lets you add your favorite items like a photo. Sliding the display gives you access to the mini QWERTY keyboard. Even though it is small, it is very user-friendly. You can setup email accounts like Yahoo and Gmail and access your inbox just by entering your email address and password. You can all your IM buddies through AIM, Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo! Messenger.
The usual AT&T apps can be found on this Pantech Pursuit P9020 phone such as Mobile Banking, MobiTV, AT&T Navigator. The social networking app gives you access to Facebook and MySpace. The social networking app of AT&T Social Net app can also be found on this phone. The quality of the photos taken through the 2 megapixel camera lacked clarity. The camera does not provide you with many options other than balance, quality settings and brightness. Videos can be captured at 320×240 pixels; however the quality is not the best. The music player is simple and the sound output is too loud when music is played at highest volume. Choosing the right equalizer settings, you can experience better sound quality. You can watch 3GP and MP4 videos seamlessly on this phone.
The internal memory of the phone is 70.8MB and external memory can detect up to 32GB of data. You can surf the web at 3G speeds of 3.6Mbps HSDPA. There is no stereo radio and WLAN feature on this phone. Pantech Pursuit’s Opera Mini internet browser is user-friendly but you will face problems in scrolling and rendering the web pages. The standard 930mAh Li-Ion battery gives a standby time of up to 360 hours and talk time of up to 5 hours.
