Samsung Impression Review

In the recent past, we have reviewed many TouchWiz phones from Samsung and here comes another phone that is powered with the TouchWiz – Samsung Impression powered by AT&T. The phone looks pretty cool and sleek and it measures 114 x 58 x 15mm and weighs 150g which make the phone slightly bulky. The body of the phone is made of blue colored plastic with chrome accents. It has got rounded corners and it feels good to hold this phone.

The Samsung Impression A877 truly impressed us with the AMOLED capactive touchscreen. It has got a display resolution of 240 x 400 pixels and measures 3.2 inches and is capable of displaying 256k colors. We did not face many problems in viewing the display under direct sunlight or any other lighting conditions. Below the display, there are three buttons namely, send, end and back/clear.

On the top right hand side corner above the display, you can find the proximity sensor and light sensor. On the left side of the phone, you can find the volume controller and on the right hand side, you can find a dedicated button for launching camera and screen lock key. At the top, you can find the USB port that can be used for transferring data and charging. On the back, you can find the 3 megapixel camera with flash and loud speaker. You can access the SIM card slot and microSD slot by uncovering the back panel. Sliding the display from left to right will give you access to the four row QWERTY keyboard. The keys on the keyboard are very comfortable and evenly spaced.

The internal memory of the Samsung Impression is 190MB and the external memory can detect up to 16GB of microSD. The TouchWiz user interface brings to you seventeen widgets from which you can use your favorite ones to be placed on the home screen. The onscreen QWERTY keyboard is also very user-friendly. It also lets you make use of virtual alphanumeric keypad and handwriting recognition. The Mobile Email application lets you set up 5 email accounts such as Yahoo, AOL, AIM and Hotmail. The IM client lets you stay in touch with your buddies on AIM, Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger.

The 3 megapixel camera was able to snap decent images. However, the images lacked details. You can record videos at a max resolution of 320 x 240. The audio quality of the phone was found to be very clear. However, the phone lacks a 3.5mm or 2.5mm audio jack. Instead, you are required to make use of stereo Bluetooth headphones to listen to audio. You can play video formats MP4 and 3GP.

The web browser of Samsung Impression A877 loaded pages quickly thanks to 3G speed of 3.6Mbps on HSDPA. The phone lacks WLAN. You can make use of the AT&T Navigator application to make full use of the assisted GPS feature. The standard Li-Ion 1000 mAh battery gives a standby time of up to 250 hours and talk time of up to 3 hours.
