Samsung has introduced a new phone to the Instinct family, Samsung SPH-m850 Instinct HD. As the name goes, Sprint’s Samsung Instinct HD is capable of recording high definition videos. The Instinct HD is quite similar to the original instinct phone and the Instinct s30.
The display screen of the phone is of 3.2 inches below which you can find the Back, Home and Phone keys. The touchscreen TFT display can display 16 million colors with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. The light sensor automatically adjusts the brightness of the display as per the lightings of the surrounding environment. The display remains quite clear even under the sunlight. The phone appears to be smaller in size thanks to its rounded edges and it weighs 113.5 grams.
The power button and 3.5mm headset jack can be found along the top of the Instinct HD. On the left side of the phone, you will find the volume control buttons and the Speech to Action button. On the right side, microUSB port (for charging and data transferring), TV-out port and camera button are placed. The camera is placed behind above the flash. A speaker is present at the bottom side.
Like the previous Instinct phones, even this one does not have a homescreen or standby screen but only shows menus. The user interface is quite user-friendly and all the applications are kept at easy access. The UI is usually fast but at times it can be sluggish. Some of the applications you will find on the Samsung Instinct HD are Facebook, Twitter, Google Maps, Sprint Navigation, SprintTV and Radio and YouTube. The phone comes with an internal memory of 84MB and also comes with 4GB memory card. The external memory can be expanded up to 32GB.
The best feature of the Samsung Instinct HD is the 5 megapixel autofocus camera that allows you to record HD videos. You can take snaps at 5 megapixel (2529 x 1944), 3 megapixel, 2 megapixel or VGA resolution whereas videos can be recorded in HD (1280 x 720), VGA or QVGA resolution. There are ample features for camera such as anti-shake, face detection, digital zoom, white balance, self-timer, LED flash, etc. The clarity is sharper compared to any of its competitor phones. Incidentally, you will find less features when it comes to video recording.
The video player is same as the ones found in the previous Instinct phones, however, due to the large display screen, the viewing experience is enhanced. The sound through the external speakers is quite good but output is amplified even more through the headphones. The Li-Ion 1440 mAh battery can last up to 5.8 hours. The other features of the phone are organizer, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.
