Samsung and AT&T have released plenty of phones starting from Samsung Eternity to the recently released Samsung Solstice and now they have come with a new phone – Samsung Mythic. The phone measures 114 x 52 x 12.7mm and weighs 109g. It feels very comfortable to hold the phone because of its plastic exterior. Samsung Mythic has a resistive TFT touchscreen that can display 256k colors at a display resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. The size of the display is 3.3 inches. Even though the phone looks amazing, it lacks AMOLED display. Still we were able to see the display clearly under direct sunlight. The light sensor located above the display automatically balances the brightness of the screen and the proximity sensor automatically turns off the display while holding the phone close to your ear while on a call.
celBelow the display screen of Samsung Mythic, you can find the send and end button. On the left side of the phone, you can find the screen lock, menu button and the camera launcher is located on the right side of the phone. The microUSB slot and the 3.5mm audio jack are located on the top side of the phone. At the rear, there is a 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash and at the bottom you can find the speaker. When you open the back cover, you will be able to access the SIM card slot, battery and microSD card slot.
The internal memory of the phone is 189MB and it can detect 8GB of external memory. The TouchWiz OS on the phone is extremely user-friendly and allows you to customize your phone by making use of home screens and widgets. The performance of the phone was found to be quite good as the phone only lagged occasionally. Onscreen keyboard of the Samsung Mythic was found to be very user-friendly for text messaging and writing emails. The handwriting tool does not respond well and most often we noticed that it did not correctly registered what we typed. The instant messaging apps present on the phone include Windows Live Messenger, AIM and Yahoo Messenger. The third party apps present on the phone include XM radio, AT&T Navigator, My-Cast Weather, MobiTV and many more.
The quality of the snaps taken by means of the 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash was found to be fantastic as all the snaps that we took were found to be rich in color and detail. However, the recorded videos appeared to be pixilated and blurry. The music player is same as the one found on Samsung Solstice and you can access it quickly through home screen widget. The sound output through the boxed earphone and loudspeaker were found to be impressive. The video player can play MP4 and 3GP files, however it lacked support for DivX and Xvid.
The web browser present on the Samsung Mythic is excellent. It has got features like double tap for zooming, multi-touch support and can also run Flash based content. You can connect to the web at 3G speeds of 7.2Mbps HSDPA and also through HSUPA. The phone lacks Wi-Fi connectivity. The standard Li-Ion 1150 mAh battery gives a standby time of up to 252 hours and talk time of up to 3 hours.
