The Verizon powered phone faces tough competition from another Verizon phone LG enV Touch VX11000 that we reviewed last week. Its size is larger than compared to its predecessor and its design looks a bit like that of HTC Touch Pro2.

The Samsung Rogue has an AMOLED display that measures 3.1 inches and has a WVGA display resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and supports 262k colors and has features like proximity sensor and accelerometer. The resistive touchscreen display was not clear when viewed under direct sunlight. The screen lock, audio jack, volume controller, and camera shutter is located on the right side whereas the on the left you can find the microSD slot.

You can horizontally slide the display to reveal the 4-row QWERTY keyboard. The keys appeared to be a bit tacky and to type without making any mistakes you will need a lot of practice. As far as user interface is concerned, the phone introduces the TouchWiz 2.0 sidebar. The homescreen displays four icons namely, dialer, contacts, messages and menu. The phone comes with a total of 23 widgets such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, etc. Apart from making use of the QWERTY keyboard for typing messages, you can input text through a new feature called Voice Dictation. The Samsung Rogue does not support Wi-Fi but lets you access web through 3G. The HTML browser lets you open multiple web pages, zoom in and zoom out, etc and has limited Flash support.

The 3.0 megapixel autofocus camera with flash launches quickly and takes excellent images both outside and inside. However, the images taken through LG enV Touch were found to be better in terms of richness and details. The sound through earphones and loudspeaker were found to be good but not the best. The video and audio player plays all the famous formats, however video files like XVID and DIVX are not supported.

All the Verizon apps can be found on the Samsung Rogue U960 including the VZ Navigator for using GPS. The phone also comes with document viewer for viewing Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files. The other features of the phone include Bluetooth and stereo FM radio with RDS. The 960 mAh battery gives a talk time of 4.7 hours and 12 days of standby time.
