Now, AT&T brings to you another Samsung phone – Solstice A887. The front casing of the phone is made up of plastic with a metallic finish whereas the backside of the phone has fake leather texture. It is very lightweight phone and it weighs only 94g and measures 109 x 53 x 12.7mm. The resistive TFT touchscreen display measures 3.0 inches and has a display resolution of 240 x 300 pixels. Even it is capable of displaying 262k colors, the display appears to be unclear when viewed under direct sunlight.

Below the display, you can find the buttons like Send, End and Back/Clear. On the left side of the phone, you can find the camera launcher and menu key whereas the proprietary charging/USB port is located on the right side. The 2 megapixel camera is housed at the rear of the phone along with the speaker phone. To access the microSD card slot, you will have to remove the back cover.

The TouchWiz UI on Samsung Solstice has been optimized to give the best performance. The menu transition effects of the UI will show you how quickly the phone functions. You can transfer data from your phone to any USB device by connecting the USB cable. You can also perform data transfer through Bluetooth.

The on-screen QWERTY keyboard does not lag and can be used for text messaging. You can also make use of the handwriting recognition tool. The instant messenger on the Samsung Solstice A887 lets you access IMs such as AIM, Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger. You can also access various email applications such as Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo and AOL. There are various third-party apps on the phone such as Mobile Banking, MobiTV, MobiVJ, and XM Radio.

The recorded videos appeared to be pixilated and blurry. The sound through the loudspeaker is fine but the audio output through the boxed headset was found to be screechy when songs were played at high volume.

You will enjoy watching videos on the Samsung Solstice; however it only plays videos in landscape mode. The browser has got less features and loads heavy web pages very slowly. You can surf at 3G speeds of 3.6Mps on HSDPA. The phone lacks Wi-Fi. Lastly, the Li-Ion 1000mAh battery gives a stand-by time of 250 hours and talk time of up to 5 hours.
