LG Thrill 4G Review

The LG Thrill 4G is quite similar to the European version of the phone called LG Optimus 3D. LG Thrill 4G is available with AT&T in US. These days most smartphones have similar appearance and so does the LG Thrill 4G. However, it has got solidly constructed handset. The phone measures 128.8 x 68 x 11.9mm and weighs 168g.

LG Thrill 4G has got a 3D LCD capacitive touchscreen display that comes with a display resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The display measures 4.3 inches. It may a little time to adjust and understand the 3D feature on this phone. Like other smartphones, even this one has got the same buttons below the display and ports around the phone. One thing you cannot give a miss on this phone is the presence of two camera lenses at the backside of the LG Thrill 4G. Through it you can snap 3D photos and videos.

The LG Thrill 4G runs on dual-core processor of 1GHz ARM. It has also got PowerVR SGX540 GPU. The performance is very smooth and impressive. The internal memory of the phone is 8GB and has got a RAM of 512MB. The external memory can detect and read up to 32GB. The phone is powered with Android v2.2 Froyo which can be upgraded v2.2 Gingerbread. The LG Thrill 4G is loaded with plenty of apps from AT&T and other apps such as Amazon Kindle, Qik Lite, Asphalt 5, Polaris Office and so on.

The unique feature of this phone is certainly the 5 megapixel dual camera. However, the images that were shot had soft details and weak colors. You can record videos of 1080p at 29fps. You will surely enjoy the shooting in 3D. You will be able to easily see different levels of depth in the 3D video or photo that you shoot. The music player is straightforward and you will be greeted with a better looking interface when you turn it to landscape. Audio output is quite good through the onboard speakers.

LG Thrill 4G is one of the best phones for browsing as it can load the heaviest websites in seconds with upload and download speeds of 5.76Mbps and 14.4Mbps. The overall browsing on the web is quite good and you can also view Flash content without any glitches. Other connectivity features of the phone include aGPS and Bluetooth. The standard Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery gives a talk time of over 6 hours and standby time of over 310 hours.

Dell Venue Review

Dell Venue is an Android powered smartphone. The phone measures 121 x 64 x 12.9 mm and weighs 164g. Dell has also launched Windows Phone version of this phone called Dell Venue Pro. It is a candybar phone that comes without a keyboard.

One of the most salient features of Dell Venue is its 4.1inch AMOLED display that supports 16m colors. Below the display, there are three capacitive Android buttons and there is enough space between them. Around the sides of the Dell Venue, you can find 3.5mm audio jack, microUSB slot, and speaker. At the rear, you can find the 8 megapixel camera along with LED flash. MicroSD card, SIM card slot and battery can be accessed when you uncover the back cover.

The Dell Venue runs on 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 8250 processor. The Android v2.2 is graced with Stage UI of Dell. The onscreen keyboard is very user-friendly. You won’t make any mistake while typing. The email app can easily setup any email address by inputting your email address and password. The phone is filled with plenty of apps such as Google apps, AccWeather, Kindle, Evernote, Facebook, QuickOffice, etc. The internal memory of the phone is 1GB and comes with 512MB RAM. The external memory can read up to 32GB of microSD. It comes preloaded with 16GB microSD card.

The 8 megapixel camera is able to snap cool images. When photos are taken in sunny environment, the photos contain sharp details. However, when it comes to snapping images in low lighting conditions, the Dell Venue disappoints miserably. Unfortunately, the LED flash does not do much illuminate the subject well even within a distance of 3 feet. It can record HD videos at 720p but the clarity of the recorded videos is not impressive.

The Dell Venue comes with the usual Android music player. The sound output of the phone can be annoying when set at loudest setting. If you lower the volume a bit from the loudest setting, you can have a pleasant listening experience. Watching high resolution videos on AMOLED display of the phone is simply a treat.

The Android web browser supports Flash and lets you watch videos inside the website. The browser is blessed with features like kinetic scrolling, pinch zooming, tabbed browsing, etc. You can connect the Dell Venue to the web through 3G and Wi-Fi. Other features include FM Radio, aGPS and Bluetooth. The standard 1400mAh Li-Ion battery gives a talk time of around 6.5 hours.

Kyocera Echo Review

Kyocera Echo is undoubtedly one of the most unique smartphones out there in the market. Kyocera Echo is world’s first dual-screen phone. You will simply fall in love with the design of this Sprint phone. The front of the phone appears glossy with chrome accents and the rear is made of plastic with soft coating. The phone measures 115 x 56.5 x 17.2mm and weighs 193g.

The display that comes with capacitive touchscreen technology measures 3.5 inches and has a resolution of 980 x 800 pixels. When you slide the main display towards the right, it sits right beside the secondary display. The two displays are separated by a black strip. The display is quite bright but under sunlight you may not be able to view it clearly. Interestingly, each display has its own buttons such as Home , Menu and Back.

The left side of Kyocera Echo contains many things such as 3.5mm audio jack, microUSB slot with cover, power button, volume controller, microSD slot with cover and lanyard slit. On the right side, you won’t find anything because it contains the hinge that holds the two displays. On the rear, you can find 5MP camera with LED flash.

The Kyocera Echo is powered with Android v2.2 and 1GHz Snapdragon processor. It comes with 512MB RAM and 8GB microSD card for the external memory. The external memory can read 32GB of microSD. The Simul-task applications show you a small indicator which shows whether the apps are compatible to be used independently on the two displays. Also, if you are using a single app, the app automatically spans over both the screens. The VueQue app is also an interesting that lets you watch YouTube videos on one display and on another you can browse and watch more videos.

When you view videos on the phone in the tablet view, the bar in the middle is quite noticeable. The 5MP camera takes about 3secs to snap a photo but sometimes images appear to be blurry. Otherwise, the camera snaps decent images. The video recorder can record videos at 720p.

Thanks to Sprint, you will have a good time browsing on the web on 3G. Also, browsing can be done through WLAN. The internet browser is the usual stock browser from Android which gives good web browsing experience. The Kyocera Echo produces a talk time of up to 7 hours.

Samsung Galaxy Indulge Review

Rating: ★★★½☆

Samsung adds another smartphone to the line of Samsung Galaxy series. The new Samsung Galaxy Indulge measures 132 x 61 x 15 mm and weighs 152g. It has got a slick and shiny plastic exterior that easily attracts dust and finger marks. The Galaxy Indulge comes with a 3.5 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display. It has got a display resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. The display comes with accelerometer sensor and proximity sensor.

Below the display of the Galaxy Indulge, you can find four buttons namely, menu, back, home and search. Sad thing is that these buttons are not back-lit which means you will have a tough time using these buttons in the dark. You find volume controller, display lock, power button, 3.5mm audio jack, microUSB slot and camera launcher on the sides of the phone. When you slide the display, you can access its very user-friendly QWERTY keyboard that comes with good feedback keys.

The Samsung Galaxy Indulge is powered by Android v2.2 decked up with Samsung’s very own TouchWiz user interface. You can choose from seven homescreens and add widgets on it. You can sync this phone with your accounts present on Google, Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Setting email accounts on this phone is also quite easy. The external memory of the phone can detect up to 32GB of memory and comes with 2GB microSD card.

The Galaxy Indulge’s 3.2MP camera is nothing special. The autofocus is sluggish and takes a few seconds to focus on a subject. Images that were taken appeared to be of mediocre quality. Takings snaps indoors is not advisable as it lacks a flash. You can record videos at 720 x 480 pixels resolution at 30fps. On the phone, you can watch videos of all the known video formats. The music player is a basic one and there is nothing much to talk about it. The output through the loudspeaker is disappointing as it has a mono speaker.

As far as internet connectivity is concerned you can use 3G at Rev. A up to 3.1 Mbps and also through WLAN. The web browser supports Flash content but appears to load heavy pages quite slowly. The Samsung Galaxy Indulge also supports assisted GPS. Lastly, the 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery gives a stand-by time of up to 300 hours and talk time of up to 3 hours.

The phone runs on Android OS v2.2 and comes with an 8GB internal memory and has also got 512MB RAM. The microSD port can detect up to 32GB of data on its external memory.

The 8MP autofocus camera of T-Mobile G2x has got a simple user interface. It is capable of capturing extremely sharp photos and on top of that images have natural looking colors. The LED flash does well in illuminating the shots where lighting is less. The front facing 1.3 megapixel camera is good enough to perform video chat. The phone allows you to record 1080p HD videos at 24fps. Watching videos on this phone is a very good experience as it allows you to view HD videos with no qualms.

MP4 videos of 1280 x 720 resolution can be played smoothly on Motorola Atrix 4G.
