Samsung Galaxy Beam Review

Here comes a new and unique smartphone that aspires to introduce new genre of phones into the market. The Samsung Galaxy Beam is a phone that comes all the latest features that you can see in other smartphones. Then, what makes this phone unique? It comes with an inbuilt HD projector. This pocket-size movie theater weighs 145.3g and measures 124 x 64.2 x 12.5mm.

The Galaxy Beam has an attractive orange band running on the sides of the phone. The phone’s exterior is made up of non-slippery soft plastic. It has a got 4-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a display resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. It has got a pixel density of 233ppi. Above the display, there is 1.3MP front-facing camera. On the right side of the phone, you can find the power/display lock button. Also, you can find the on/off button for the projector. On the left, there is volume controller. The microUSB slot, SIM card slot and microSD slot can be accessed through the sides and are provided with protective flaps.

Let’s talk about the USP of the phone – the inbuilt HD projector. The 15 lumen pico projector comes with maximum resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. You can easily watch a two and half hour movie and still have some power left in the battery. You can get good viewing experience when you the video or presentation through the phone’s projector in a dark room or dimly lit room. It also come with an easy-to-use Projector app.

The Samsung Galaxy Beam runs on Android v2.3 (can be upgraded to Android v4.0). The phone is powered up with dual-core 1GHz processor along with 768MB RAM. The internal storage is 8GB and the external microSD can detect up 32GB of microSD. The 5MP camera that is provided with LED flash is able to snap decent photos. However, its capability of recording 720p HD videos is below our expectations. The phone could have easily supported 1080p HD recording since it houses 1GHz dual-core CPU. The loudspeaker of the phone emits impressive sound output. It also supports playing videos all the known video formats.

The default Android web browser on Samsung Galaxy Beam works well. It can loads heavy websites with Flash content without any delay. You can connect to the web on 3G at speeds of 14.4 Mbps HSDPA and HSUPA 5.76 Mbps. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi (with DLNA), Bluetooth v3.0 and aGPS. As of now, Samsung has not mentioned anything on the talk time and standby time of 2000mAh Li-Ion battery.

Sony Xperia S Review

Sony Xperia S is an all new smartphone that contains a whole lot of features that were never seen before in a Sony smartphone. The phone measures 128 x 64 x 10.6 mm and weighs 144g. The rear of the phone is slightly curved for better grip. The makers have claimed that the phone is covered with dirt-repellent nanocoating. However, it still manages to attract easily.

Sony Xperia S has got the largest display compared to any Sony phone. The LED-backlit LCD display measures 4.3 inches. It has a display resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and has a pixel density of 342ppi. The display is quite bright and gives great viewing angles. The colors appear rich thanks to the BRAVIA engine. Around the sides of the phone, you can find microUSB and microHDMI ports, volume controller, camera key, and display lock/power button. Above the display, you can find a 1.3MP front-facing camera.

Sony Xperia S has Android v2.3 on it. The makers have claimed that users can upgrade to v4.0. The phone is powered with 1.5 GHz processor. It has a 220 Adreno GPU. The UXP NXT interface which is nothing next user interface brings to you live wallpaper on its homescreens. The internal storage of the phone is 32GB and comes with 1GB RAM. There is no microSD expansion slot onboard.

The Sony Xperia S has a 12 megapixel camera and has got numerous camera functions on its UI. The photos taken through the camera are crisp and clear with good amount of detail. The LED flash manages to light up the subject well and this results in good quality photos with some noise. You can record HD videos of 1080p at 30fps. The music player’s interface is quite simple with Metro style – tiles on it to access various functions. The Sense button can help in finding tracks that you may love to listen. The Xperia S has got a powerful loudspeaker.

The Xperia S has a very intuitive web browser since it is powered by dual-core processor and its display offers brilliant pixel density. And with Flash Player 11 onboard, you can view complex webpages without experiencing sluggishness. You can achieve web connectivity at speeds of 14.4Mbps HSDPA and 5.8Mbps HSUPA. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, aGPS, Bluetooth, etc. The 1750 mAh battery gives a standby time of over 400 hours on 3G and talk time of 8 hours on 3G.

What Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Has In Store For You

The most recent version of Android operating system is called Android Ice Cream Sandwich (aka Android v4.0). Compared to all the previous versions of Android OS, this one seems to be the best version released till date. The Android ICS platform is suitable for both Android tablets and smartphones. It brings to you plenty of new features.

Appearance
The interface of the Android ICS contains plenty of black color. One reason behind it is that black helps in saving battery life. You can pull down the notifications bar like before and checkout your alerts. If you want to remove any item, all you need to do is swipe it off to the right. The homescreen is quite spacious and it allows you to resize your widgets. From the apps menu, you can drag your app shortcuts. Also, it is now easier to change the wallpapers. To do this, you can long press on the homescreen.

There is Google Search option available on the homescreen and at the bottom of the screen you can find four default shortcuts such as Home, Messaging, People and Internet. Below these, there are new onscreen buttons namely, Back, Home and Latest Apps (contains all the recently used apps). Organizing icons and making folder is quite easy now. Just drag your icons on top of another icon and automatically new folder will be created. Folder icon also stacked icons of the apps that are present inside it to make it easier for you to recognize the folder. The onscreen keyboard has become even more easy to use then before.

Android Beam
The NFC feature lets you transfer contents present on one Android to the other. To share content, you need to hold the phones close to each other and then tap on share and the screen of your phone will be beamed to the other phone. Beaming makes it possible to do various things like using Google Wallet and playing multiplayer games.

People app
It is the address book app which is much clean and clear than before. The favorite tabs have large photos of your most contacted people. You can integrate social networking feed with the contacts. When you are unable to receive a call, you can quickly send a customized text message to the caller.

Web browsing
The Ice Cream Sandwich web browser is the best internet browser till now from Android. It is quick, smooth and you can keep open up to 16 tabs. You can swipe on any tab to the right to close it. For private browsing, it brings to incognito mode like the one in Google Chrome to browse without storing any trace of cache on your phone. Flash content is not supported yet but an update later in the year will also allow you to view Flash content inside the browser.

Camera app
It launches quickly and brings to you many camera functions. You can edit the photos right after you snap them. There is no shutter lag whatsoever and time between photos is also reduced considerably. Quite a few filters and effects are available to enhance your photos.  You can easily arrange your photos and videos inside the photo albums. You can also capture screenshots through it.

Data Usage
It is now easier to check how much data your apps are using up. With a graph data available to check usage, you can find out which apps are using up much of your data. This can greatly help in preventing data overuse charges.

Battery
There is also a graph data available to check your battery usage. You can find out which apps are using much of your battery life. You can turn off those apps and save on your battery.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S Review

Sony Ericsson Arc S has a striking resemblance to the original Sony Ericsson Arc. This is one of the thinnest phones available in the market. The phone weighs 175g and measures 125 x 63 x 8.7mm. It has a very slick appearance.

The 4.2 inches Super LCD display has a screen resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. The capacitive touchscreen can display 16 million colors. Additionally, it is powered with Mobile BRAVIA engine that is the technology that is used in Sony LCD televisions. The display is quite bright wherever you use it. However, viewing angles are not that good. There are very thin physical buttons below the display.

Above the display of Sony Ericsson Arc S, you can find the proximity and ambient sensor along with a status LED. On the left, there is a 3.5mm audio jack. The HDMI port and power/display lock button is found at the top. On the right corner, you can find the microUSB slot and volume controller and camera button are also placed on the right. At the back, you can find 8 megapixel camera.

The Sony Ericsson Arc S has Gingerbread Android on it. The OS can be upgraded to Android Ice-cream v4.0. Sony Ericsson’s Timespace is found overlaid on Android. The phone is powered with 1.4GHz Scorpion processor along with Adreno 205 GPU. The internal memory is of 1GB with 320MB available for user to use. The external memory can read up to 32GB of microSD and comes with 8GB microSD card.

The 8 megapixel camera has the Exmor Rsensor which helps in promoting high sensitivity and reducing noise when there is less light. As expected, the photos are crisp and clear. Videos can be recorded of 720p at 30fps. The music player on the phone has minimum features on its interface but comes with ten equalizers, Track ID and helps in viewing related YouTube videos and lyrics.  The sound through the loudspeaker is very impressive. You will have a good time watching videos on it. However, it does not support DivX and Xvid formats.

The internet browser on Sony Ericsson Arc S is quite good for browsing experience.  It also supports Flash. You can browse on the web through 3G and WLAN. Other connectivity features include GPS and Bluetooth. The Li-Po 1500 mAh battery has a standby time of over 455 hours on 3G and talktime of over 7 hours on 3G.
