Setting up email accounts is very easy on this phone. The one thing you won’t find on this phone is an instant messenger. Since the phone is brought to the market by AT&T, you can find plenty of carrier branded applications on this phone.

The 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and dual LED flash snaps high resolution photos. The camera application is filled with many shooting options. Even macro shots can be shot with impressive clarity. You can record videos at 720p at 23 fps. The Zune music player has a very beautiful interface and different to music players present on other smartphones. It can play a wide range of audio formats. The AMOLED display of the phone is quite good when it comes to playing video files.

Samsung Solstice II Review

Samsung Solstice II is the successor phone to the original Samsung Solstice. The phone is available on contract with AT&T. It measures 109 x 54.1 x 12 mm and weighs only 95g. The exterior of the phone is made up of plastic. As far as design is concerned, the Samsung Solstice II seems to be boring phone because it looks very similar to other mid-range Samsung phones.

The Samsung Solstice II sports a 3.35 inch resistive display screen that is capable of displaying 65k colors at 240 x 400 pixels. The display appears to be very lively when the brightness is set to the highest. You will find it very difficult to view the contents of the display under direct sunlight. Below the display, you can find three physical buttons for Send, End and Back/Clear. As you move around the sides of the phone, you will find the following buttons and ports: volume controller, Menu button, camera shutter button, display lock/unlock button and microUSB port. At the backside, there is a 2 megapixel autofocus camera.

Samsung Solstice II has got the TouchWiz 3.0 user interface which brings to you three homescreens. You can add widgets on the homescreen and thereby personalize the phone. The internal memory of the phone is 83MB and the external memory of the phone supports up to 16GB of microSD.

The AT&T Mobile Email app lets you setup email accounts within seconds. The Social Net app lets you stay updated on Twitter, MySpace, Facebook and RSS feeds. You can get online on various IM clients like AIM, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger. There are many third party apps on the phone such YPmobile, My-Cast Weather, AllSport GPS, City ID, MobiTV and other AT&T apps like AT&T Radio, AT&T Navigator and AT&T Maps.

The Samsung Solstice II disappoints with 2 megapixel camera. The clarity of the images is nothing exceptional. You won’t like record videos on this phone. It can record videos of 320 x 240 pixels at 15fps. The music player is simple and displays album cover, song information and on-screen controls. The equalizer setting does not help in producing impressive sound output. As expected, you can only watch low resolution (320 x 240 pixels) videos on this phone.

As far is internet is concerned, the Samsung Solstice II offers decent browsing experience. Pages do not load quickly but it does allow you to zoom and scroll quickly. As compared to other features of the phone, you will like web browsing on the phone as it lets you stay connected on the web at 3G speeds of 7.2 Mbps on HSDPA. The standard Li-Ion 1000 mAh battery gives a standby time of up 250hours and talk time of up to 5 hours.

Samsung Evergreen Review

AT&T brings a new eco-friendly Samsung phone to the cell phone arena – Samsung Evergreen. The phone is made up of recyclable plastic. It comes with an energy efficient charger. By looking at the phone you will come to understand that it is a messaging phone. The body is made up of glossy plastic. It weighs 128g and measures 116 x 56 x 15 mm.

The Samsung Evergreen sports a 2.4 inch TFT screen. The display lacks sharpness and only when you increase the brightness, you are able to view the display clearly. Focusing on the display outdoors is not easy. Below the display is the 4 way directional pad along with the usual soft keys. Below the directional pad, you can find the regular alphanumeric keypad.

On the left side of the Samsung Evergreen, you can find the microSD slot along with the volume controller. On the right, there is a camera shutter, task menu button and microUSB port.  At the rear, there is a 2 megapixel camera. Uncovering the back cover gives you access to the battery and SIM card. Sliding the display to the right slides out the 4-row QWERTY keyboard. Typing is easy as the buttons are raised enough.

When it comes to customizing the user interface, the Samsung Evergreen only lets you change the wallpaper. You can customize the phone by making use of the inbuilt themes. The AT&T Email app lets you setup all the popular email accounts. The instant messaging apps on the phone include AIM, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger. In addition to this, you can access Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and RSS feeds. There are a host of AT&T apps on the phone. The AT&T Sport GPS can be used for navigational purpose.

The 2 megapixel camera of Samsung Evergreen manages to snap images of mediocre quality. The clarity of the captured images in low lighting condition is simply forgettable. You can capture videos at max resolution of 320 x 240 pixels at 14fps. The music player all the well-known audio formats. Since the phone has a small display screen, viewing videos in landscape mode is not that enjoyable even though it plays MP4 videos of 320 x 240 resolution effortlessly.

The internal memory of the phone is 256MB and the microSD card slot can read up to 16GB of microSD. There is WLAN feature on this phone. You can connect to the web through AT&T’s 3G service at speeds of 3.6Mbps on HSDPA. The Opera Mini gives a good web browsing experience. There is also an alternative browser on the phone called NetFront Browser. The 1000 mAh standard Li-Ion battery gives a standby time of up to 250 hours and talk time of up to 5 hours.

The clarity of the display is stunning and gives good viewing angles. Below the display, you can find three capacitive buttons. On the sides of the Motorola BRAVO phone, you can find a very thin volume controller, power button, 3.5 mm audio headphone jack and microUSB port. On the rear, there is a 3 megapixel autofocus camera. To access the battery, SIM card or microSD slot, you will to open the back cover.

Pantech Pursuit P9020 Review

After launching many Pantech cell phones for AT&T that specialized in text messaging into the market last year, Pantech has now finally tried its luck in full touchscreen arena. The size of the phone is just 93.2 x 63.8 x 14.7mm and weighs 129.8g. The display of the phone is of 2.8 inches only. The QVGA resistive touchscreen display is capable of supporting 262k colors. However, the quality of the display is not impressive.  It has a display resolution of 240 x 400 pixels.

Below the display, there are touch sensitive buttons that are meant for functions – Send, End and Back/Clear.  On the left side of the phone, you can find microSD memory card slot and volume controller. On the right side of the phone, you can find the proprietary USB port which can be used for performing data transfer as well as charging the phone. On the right side, you can also find other buttons such as quick menu access button, display lock/unlock button and camera launcher. At the rear, there is a 2 megapixel camera along with the speakerphone. You can access the SIM card and back cover by uncovering the back panel.

Pantech Pursuit’s interface is similar to the Samsung TouchWiz interface. It has got three home screens. The left home screen contains the shortcuts of applications. The middle one only displays the clock. The right one lets you add your favorite items like a photo. Sliding the display gives you access to the mini QWERTY keyboard. Even though it is small, it is very user-friendly. You can setup email accounts like Yahoo and Gmail and access your inbox just by entering your email address and password. You can all your IM buddies through AIM, Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo! Messenger.

The usual AT&T apps can be found on this Pantech Pursuit P9020 phone such as Mobile Banking, MobiTV, AT&T Navigator. The social networking app gives you access to Facebook and MySpace. The social networking app of AT&T Social Net app can also be found on this phone. The quality of the photos taken through the 2 megapixel camera lacked clarity. The camera does not provide you with many options other than balance, quality settings and brightness. Videos can be captured at 320×240 pixels; however the quality is not the best. The music player is simple and the sound output is too loud when music is played at highest volume. Choosing the right equalizer settings, you can experience better sound quality. You can watch 3GP and MP4 videos seamlessly on this phone.

The internal memory of the phone is 70.8MB and external memory can detect up to 32GB of data. You can surf the web at 3G speeds of 3.6Mbps HSDPA. There is no stereo radio and WLAN feature on this phone. Pantech Pursuit’s Opera Mini internet browser is user-friendly but you will face problems in scrolling and rendering the web pages. The standard 930mAh Li-Ion battery gives a standby time of up to 360 hours and talk time of up to 5 hours.

It has got a TFT display that measures 3 inches and is capable of display 256k colors at a display resolution of 400 x 240 pixels. On the right side, you can find the display lock/unlock button, camera shutter button and lanyard slot on the right edge of the phone. At the rear there is a 2 megapixel camera. You can access the battery, SIM card slot and microSD slot by uncovering the back panel.

Slide the touchscreen until it snaps on to its position and you will be able to see 4-row keyboard. All the keys are well=spaced and you will be able to create messages easily. Samsung Captivate Review

AT&T’s new Samsung phone – Samsung Captivate is powered with Android OS and is expected to give all the hi-end Android phones a tough competition. Samsung Captivate belongs to the Samsung Galaxy S line of phones. The phone appears to be very sleek and sophisticated. The phone measures 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9mm and weighs only 118g. One of the best things about this phone is that it sports an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display which measures 4 inches. It has got a display resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and is capable of displaying 16m colors. The display is very bright and clear. However, you will face some difficulties in viewing it outdoors.

There are four touch sensitive buttons on the phone namely Menu, Home, Back and Search. On the top side of the phone, you can find the 3.5mm audio headset and the microUSB port. At the rear, you can find the 5 megapixel camera with the speaker. Uncovering the back panel of the phone will give you access to the battery, SIM card slot and the memory card.
