RIM BlackBerry Style Review

BlackBerry Style 9670 is flip phone with QWERTY keyboard. In the past, BlackBerry had released the Pearl Flip into the market; however the Style 9670 is their first flip phone to have a full keyboard. The phone measures 96 x 60 x 18.5 mm and weighs 131g.

The main display of the BlackBerry Style 9670 measures 2.7 inches and has a display resolution of 360 x 480 pixels. It supports 65k colors. The display is quite bright and it is readable in any lighting conditions. The QWERTY keyboard is very user-friendly. On the left side of the BlackBerry Style 9670, you can find 3.5mm audio jack and microUSB port.

On the right, you can find the volume controller along with the convenience key. There is only one convenience key on the phone. The flip mechanism is quite good, however you will always face the inconvenience of flipping it open and shutting whenever you want to answer a call or write a text message.

The Style 9670 has the BlackBerry OS 6 operating system. The internal memory of the phone is 512 MB and comes with an 8GB microSD card. The external memory can read up to 16GB of microSD. The phone’s performance is exceptional as it runs on 624 MHz processor. On the home screen, there is a persistent bar that gives you quick access to features like Favorites, Media, Downloads, Frequent and All. The notification area does well in informing you about alerts such as messages, texts, calls, updates from Facebook and Twitter. The universal search feature lets you search your phone by inputting the relevant text.

The 5 megapixel camera comes with autofocus and dual LED flash. Even though the phone has flash, the images appeared grainy. The photos that were taken outdoors also appeared somewhat grainy and had unnatural contrast. You can record videos at 640 x 480 pixels. The music player has a simple interface but has got all the basic features. Sound through the boxed headphones as well as the loudspeaker appeared to be of mediocre quality. You can videos of 800 x 480 pixels on Style 9670.

The Style 9670 is an EVDO Rev A device that lets you browse on net through 3G and WLAN. The WebKit browser looks good but loads pages at a slow pace. The Li-Ion 1150 mAh battery gives a standby time of over 260 hours and talk time of over 4 hours. You can listen to up to 14 hours of continuous music on this phone.

BlackBerry Bold 9780 Review

BlackBerry Bold 9780 is the successor to the  RIM BlackBerry Bold 9700 that was released last year. We were disappointed to know that the phone looks very identical to the predecessor phone. The phone measures 109 x 60 x 14 mm and weighs 122g.

The size of the TFT display is 2.44 inches and has a resolution of 480 x 360 pixels and supports 65m colors. The display is quite decent and viewing angles are also good. Users will not find it difficult to view the contents of the display outdoors. The portrait style QWERTY keyboard works flawlessly, however people with large fingers can face some problems initially. Between the display and the keyboard you can find the optical trackpad along with the physical buttons like Send, End, Menu and Back.

On the left side of the BlackBerry Bold 9780, you can find the left convenience button along with the microUSB slot and 3.5 mm audio headset jack. On the right, you can find the right convenience button and volume controller can be found. On the top, there is a mute button and display lock button. As compared to the 3.2 megapixel camera on Bold 9700, the Bold 9780 sports a 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash.

The BlackBerry Bold 9780 is the third RIM phone to run on the RIM plaform OS 6. The internal memory of the phone is 256MB and 512MB RAM. The phone runs on 624Mhz processor. The Social Feeds app lets you access social networking sites like Twitter, MySpace and Facebook. There are plenty of third party apps on the phone such as BlackBerry Maps for GPS navigation, YouTube, Sudoku, Blackberry Messenger and other chatting messengers like AIM, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, and Google Talk.

The 5 megapixel autofocus camera is capable of taking high quality images outdoors, however you will not be impressed with the images taken by the Bold 9780 indoors even though the flash tries its best to illuminate the scene. It can also record high definition videos at a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels at 3 fps. The music player is visually impressive and has many items such as album cover, onscreen controls, song info, etc.

The WebKit browser lacks Flash but it renders pages quickly and the web pages appear the same way as they on a desktop. You can enjoy surfing the web at 3G speeds and also through Wi-Fi. The standard Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery gives a standby time of over 400 hours on 3G and talk time of up to 6 hours on 3G.
