Forgot the Memory Card Password of Your Nokia phone? Unlock it now

We enable a password security on our Nokia phone to keep the data on the memory card private and not accessible to others. However, many times you may have come up across a situation wherein you have completely forgotten the password of the memory card or simply the access to the memory card is denied.

Even though you have tried your best to come up with all the combinations of the passwords that strike in your mind but all your efforts seems to be going in vain. Instead of panicking in such a situation, you can stay calm and perform a few troubleshooting steps to access the phone’s memory card.

One of the easiest ways to unlock or access a blocked memory card of your phone is to rename the memory card. Here are the steps you can take to rename the phone’s memory card:

  • On your Nokia phone, press the Menu button and go to Gallery> Memory Card (Please note the location of the Memory Card on the phone’s software may vary with different models).
  • Do not open the Memory Card folder but only highlight it and then select Options > Rename and put a new name to your Memory Card by replacing the old name and press OK.
  • Restart the phone and you will be able to access your cell phone’s memory card easily.

There are some other methods which you can try, which are proven successful on s60series (1st and 2nd edition) phones. In such kind of phones, you will have to install an additional application – a file explorer on to your phone. Here are the steps:

memorycard[8]1 copy

  • Get a file explorer application (you can download it from the internet for free) such as FExplorer or FileMan and install it on the phone memory of your phone.
  • Make sure the memory card is present inside the phone and execute the FExplorer application and browse to the location C:\System. (C:\ – phone memory drive)
  • Here you will see a file with a name mmcstore.txt. To unblock your memory card, you need to rename this file.
  • To rename, you will have to connect your phone to the computer and copy the mmcstore.txt file from your phone memory and paste it on your computer.
  • Open the file in a Notepad on your computer. Once you open it, at the very end of the file, you will see the password of the memory card.

Unfortunately, s60 3rd edition phones and E series phones of Nokia’s locked memory cannot be unlocked by above method. The only suitable solution to this sort of problem is to format the memory card. This can be done by Menu> Gallery> Memory Card> Options> Format. The only major drawback associated with this step is that you will lose all your data that is present in your phone.

It has been noticed that in Nokia Eseries phones, when you enable the remote lock option on your phone it will change the password of the memory card. Remote lock is a feature lets you to lock your phone by simply sending a text message to your phone. You can enable this feature by going to Tools>Settings> Security> Phone and SIM> Allow remote lock menu. The code or the password of your memory card would be the same as your remote lock message.
