Sony Ericsson Cedar Review

Sony Ericsson brings to you a new eco-friendly phone – the Sony Ericsson Cedar. This phone belongs to the Greenheart line of phones that are made up of recyclable materials. The candy bar phone measures 111 x 49 x 15.5mm and weighs only 84g. The phone is shipped in a very tiny box and it only includes the handset, handsfree, charger and documents.

The display of Sony Ericsson Cedar measures 2.2 inches and is capable of display 256k colors at a display resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. The display is quite bright and if you set the brightness to the highest setting, you will be able to view the display easily outdoors. On the top side of the Cedar, you can find the 3.5 mm audio headphone jack. On the left, there is a microUSB slot along with the volume controller. Below the display, there are soft keys followed by the numeric keypad.

Sony Ericsson Cedar runs the proprietary interface and has got a very and plain homescreen. You can place static or animated wallpaper on the homescreen. The Widget Manager 2.0 lets you add widgets like Facebook and Twitter on the homescreen. The internal memory of the phone is 280MB and the external memory can detect up to 16GB of microSD.

The 2 megapixel autofocus camera can be used for taking casual snaps. The captured images lacked details and clarity. The phone records videos in VGA resolution. As always Sony Ericsson again impresses us with good sound output. The music player is equipped with mega-bass equalizer setting. You can also listen to onboard stereo FM on this phone. You can watch low resolution MP4 videos on the Sony Ericsson Cedar.

The Sony Ericsson Cedar is quadband phone. You can perform data transfer through Bluetooth and microUSB. Even though you can connect to the web at 3G speeds of 7.2 Mbps on HSDPA and 2Mbps on HSUPA, you won’t enjoy browsing on this phone because web browser is incapable of rendering pages properly. The Li-Po 1000 mAh battery gives a standby time of 475 hours on 3G and up to 5 hours of talk time on 3G.

Sony Ericsson Aspen Review

Sony Ericsson Aspen is a Pocket PC device with Symbian interface and the Windows Mobile OS – WinMo Pro. This phone belongs to the eco-friendly line of Greenheart phones. The phone is made up of recycled materials. The phone measures 117 x 60 x 12.5mm and weighs 130g.

The size of the resistive TFT display is 2.4 inches and has a display resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and supports 65k colors. Below the display, you can find a big d-pad along with the control and navigation buttons followed by the 4-row QWERTY keyboard. The layout of the keyboard is quite similar to the one found on Nokia E63 and Nokia E71.

On the right side of the Sony Ericsson Aspen, you can the volume controller which can also be used for zooming. There is no dedicated button for starting camera. The d-pad can be used for starting the camera and taking snaps. On the top, you can find a 3.5mm audio jack and display lock/power button and on the top right corner, there is a stylus compartment. At the rear, there is a 3.2 megapixel camera and the loudspeaker.

The Sony Ericsson Aspen is powered with 600 Mhz processor, 256MB RAM and 256MB ROM. The internal memory of the phone is 1000MB. The phone comes with a 4GB microSD card. You can use up to 16GB of microSD on its external memory. The phone runs on Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Professional operating system. The phone comes with social networking apps like Twitter and Facebook. You can also view and edit MS-Office files on this phone.

The 3.2 megapixel camera is of mediocre quality and it can take good images only when enough lighting is available. You can record VGA videos at 15fps. There is a very basic music player with minimum features like onscreen controls, song categories, album art, and playlist. The video player is somewhat impressive as it can play MP4, DivX and XviD video formats.

The IE 6 (Internet Explorer) browser is touch optimized and supports Flash Lite 3. You can connect to the web through Wi-Fi as well as through 3G at 7.2Mbps on HSDPA and 2Mbps on HSUPA. You can make use of Google Maps Latitude and Bing Maps for aGPS. The Li-Po 1500 mAh battery gives a stand-by time of up to 600 hours on 3G and talk time of 8 hours on 3G.
