LG env Touch Review – The Return of the LG Voyager

In the year 2007, the LG Voyager phone was considered to be one of the must have phones from Verizon. Now, it’s the successor phone, LG enV Touch VX11000 that is all set to hit the market.  The LG enV Touch is a very sleek phone and looks very similar to the LG Voyager. It is a clamshell phone with 2-stop hinge. It has got two displays, one that can be seen at the front and another one can be seen when you open the phone. The main display of the phone is a WVGA resistive touchscreen TFT display that is capable of displaying 16 million colors. It has a display resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The internal display of the phone is not a touch-sensitive display; however, it is a TFT screen capable of displaying a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels.

The light sensor present on the LG enV Touch adjusts the brightness of the display as per the lightings of the surroundings.  The proximity sensor automatically turns off the display when the phone is held near your face when you answer a call.  The phone does not allow you manually adjust the brightness of the phone. The response of the resistive touchscreen is very good and you can even use your finger instead of a stylus. Below the display, you can find the send, clear/voice command and call end/power button.

On the left side of the phone, you can find the camera button, volume controller and display lock button whereas on the right, you can find the 3.5mm audio headset slot, microSD slot and microUSB port. For transferring data between your phone and computer or other device, you can make use of the microUSB or Bluetooth. The phone can easily detect and read a 16GB microSD card. At the backside of the phone, you can find the 3 megapixel autofocus camera with Schneider-Kreuznach lens and LED flash. Images taken outside appear bright and clear, however the ones taken inside appeared to be grainy and blurry. You can record videos at a VGA resolution of 640 x 480 pixels with 17-20fps.

When you open the phone, you will be able to see a QWERTY keyboard with keys having rounded edges. There is a large d-pad and dedicated buttons for Favorites and New Text Message. Typing on this phone is quite comfortable. The home screen lets you change your wallpaper and add 5 icons for inbox, dialer, main menu, address book and favorites. There is a small shortcut arrow present at the bottom right side of the phone. Pressing it will let you add up to 15 items of your choice for one-click access.

In order to browse on the web, you can make use of 3G or Wi-Fi. Since it is a Verizon powered phone, it gives you access to various Veriszon apps such as News, Email, Entertainment, Verizon Services, etc. The web browser is very user-friendly, however it comes with limited Flash support which still allows you to watch embedded videos on web pages and YouTube videos. The GPS does well in providing you with driving directions thanks to its VZ Navigator app. The phone also has a document viewer for viewing .doc, .xls, .ppt, and .pdf files. Last but not the least, the Li-Polymer 950 mAh battery gives a talk time of over 4 hours and stand-by time of over 400 hours.
