Motorola DEVOUR Review

Motorola DEVOUR A55 is a sparkling new smartphone from Verizon Wireless that is powered with Android 1.6 OS. It is their third Android phone after Motorola DROID and HTC DROID ERIS. The phone shines bright as its body is made up of aluminum and has a silver coating which also makes it look sturdy and durable. It has got a 3.1 inch capacitive touchscreen display that has a display resolution of 320 x 480 pixels and supports 65k colors. Below the capacitive display, you can find three capacitive buttons meant for menu, home and back. There is a blue LED indicator that flashes whenever you receive any kind of notification.

At the bottom left, you can find a square optical navigation key which can be used for navigation and selecting items on the display. At the left side of the phone, you can find the microUSB port and there is a sliding cover which when opened will give you access to the battery and the microSDHC card slot. The phone is preloaded with 8GB of external memory and can detect up to 32GB of memory card. The internal memory of the phone is 250MB. At the right side, you can find the volume controller, voice command key and the camera launcher. On the top, there is power/lock button and a 3.5mm audio headset jack. The external speakers are located at the bottom and there is a 3 megapixel camera at the rear.

The Motorola DEVOUR has got plenty of apps such as Gtalk, Gmail, Google Maps 4 with Navigation, Quick Office for viewing documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and acrobat files. Verizon’s Mobile IM gives you access to AIM, Windows Live and Yahoo! and there are other Verzion apps also such as VZ Navigator, VCast Music, VCast Videos. The Android OS together MOTOBLUR interface lets you stay in touch with your friends on major social networking sites.

One cool feature of the phone is Motorola Phone Portal which can be used by connecting your phone to a PC through USB or Wi-Fi and then access a web-based application through the browser by entering and then you will be able

to do many tasks through your computer such as download photos, assign ringtones, check call and web history, view contacts, etc.

Sliding the display of the Motorola DEVOUR A55 will give you access to the 4-row QWERTY keyboard. It is very easy to use as the buttons are big and spaced well. However, we faced feedback issue while pressing the buttons. The 3 megapixel fixed focus camera lacks flash, hence the photos you snap in dim light lacks clarity. It allows you to record videos in 3gp format at 640 x 480 resolutions at 23fps. The music playback quality and audio output through the external speakers is good. The phone can play MP4 files encoded with H.263 and H.264. You will not face any performance while playing high resolution videos.

The Motorola DEVOUR’s Webkit based browser supports Adobe Flash Lite which lets you view YouTube videos directly through the browser. You can browse on the net at 3G speeds and also through Wi-Fi. The other features of the phone include assisted GPS and stereo Bluetooth. The 1400mAh Li-Ion gives a talk time of over 6 hours and standby time of over 400 hours.
