Motorola Droid Pro Review

Motorola Droid Pro XT610 is the newer version of the Motorola Droid phone from Verizon Wireless. The phone weighs 134g and measures 119 x60 x 11.7 mm. The form factor of the phone is very similar to that of a BlackBerry phone. The exterior of the phone is made up of hard plastic which makes it very durable.

The display of Motorola Droid Pro measures 3.1 inches. The capacitive touchscreen display has got a display resolution of 320 x 480 pixels and is capable of displaying 16 million colors. The display occupies the major area of the phone at the front and the remaining part is occupied by the QWERTY keyboard. Typing on this keyboard is not easy but with frequent usage you will be able to create text messages and emails easily.

On the left side of the Motorola Droid Pro, you can find the volume rocker and the microUSB port. On the right side, you can a programmable key. At the top, you can find the power button and 3.5mm audio jack. At the rear is located the 5 megapixel camera.

The Motorola Droid Pro runs on the Android 2.2 operating system. It allows you to make use of 7 homescreens and add custom widgets. The internal memory of the phone is 8GB and comes with 512 MB RAM and 2GB ROM. The external memory of the phone can read up to 32GB of microSD and comes with 8GB card. The phone’s snappy performance is all because of the 1GHz processor and PowerVR SGX530 GPU.

The 5 megapixel camera of Motorola Droid Pro disappointed us as the snaps appeared to be blurry and grainy. When lighting conditions were good, it could take decent photos. You can record DVD quality videos on this phone. The video player can easily play video range of video formats including DivX and XviD files. The stock Android music player comes with simple features.

The stock Android web browser loads pages without delay. You can access the web using 3G and Wi-Fi internet connectivity. The standard Li-Ion battery of 1420mAh gives a standby time of over 310 hours on 3G and talk time of nearly 7 hours on 3G.

Deciding on a Droid Phone: How to Choose between Droid 2, Droid X and Droid Pro

In the recent past, Motorola has released couple of phones from the Droid series. If you search on the web for Droid phones or if you visit a local phone shop, you will find the following Droid phones: Motorola Droid, Droid 2, Droid Pro and Droid X. All these phones are powered with Android. All the phones have become quite famous. Here is what each of the above mentioned Droid phones offers you:

Motorola Droid
The very first Droid series phone was launched with Android 2.1 OS. You can still upgrade the phone Android 2.2 OS. The horizontal QWERTY runs on 600 MHz processor and has a big capacitive display that measures 3.7 inches. It has got PowerVR SGX530 GPU. Other features include slider QWERTY, 133MB internal memory, 32GB external memory, GPS, 5 megapixel camera with autofocus feature and dual LED flash. You can connect to the web through 3G and Wi-Fi.

Motorola Droid 2
As far as specs is concerned; the Motorola Droid 2 is much better phone than the previous edition. It runs on Android 2.2 but can be upgraded to Android 2.3. The screen size is same as the original Droid. It also has a slider QWERTY. It comes with 1GHz processor, 8GB internal storage and 512MB RAM and reads up to 32GB of data on external memory. The 5 megapixel camera comes without flash. All the possible connectivity can be used on the phone.

Motorola Pro 2
The phone ahs got a powerful 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash. Like the Droid 2, even this phone runs on Android 2.2. It has 1 GHz processor, 512MB RAM, 8GB internal storage capacity, and external memory of 32GB. Wi-Fi is DNLA enabled and all kinds of connectivity options are available on this. The design and the look of the phone are quite unique and appealing. The size of the touchscreen is 3.1 inches. The phone looks like a BlackBerry phone and makes you feel as if you are using Android OS on BlackBerry.

Motorola Droid X
It is a mean machine and a powerful phone that can easily crush its competitors. A mammoth sized capacitive display of 4.3 inches, 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM, internal storage capacity of 6.5GB and external storage capacity of 32GB is what makes this phone desirable. The phone was initially launched with Android 2.1 OS but later on it was upgraded to Android 2.2. It has a powerful autofocus camera of 8 megapixel with dual LED flash and it can record high definition videos of 720p. Like the previous Droid phones, even this phone has all the connectivity options.

Motorola Droid X Review

Verizon Wireless has introduced a new Motorola phone with Android OS – Motorola Droid X M8810. This phone is the successor to the original Motorola Droid A855 that was released last year. The phone weighs 155g and measures 127.5 x 65.5 x 9.9 mm. It comes with a TFT capactive touchscreen display that measures 4.3 inches and has a FWVGA display resolution of 480 x 854 pixels and is capable of displaying up to 16m colors.  It goes without saying that phone is bulky; however, the guys at Motorola have tried their best to make the phone as thin as possible.

Below the display of Motorola Droid X, there are four physical buttons namely Menu, Home, Back and Search. On the left side of the phone, you can find the microUSB and micro HDMI video port.  On the top, there is power and display lock button along with the 3.5mm audio jack.  On the right side, there is a volume controller and camera launcher. At the rear, there is an 8MP camera with flash and external speaker. The microSDHC slot can be accessed by opening the back panel.
The Motorola Droid X runs on Android 2.1 OS which provides the user with 7 home screens. In the late summer, Motorola has announced that the OS will be updated to Android 2.2 (Froyo). The internal memory of the phone is 8GB with 512MB RAM. It can detect up to 32GB of memory. The phone is powered with OMAP3630 720Mhz processor and PowerVR SGX530 GPU which produces snappy performance.

You can setup IMAP, POP3 and Exchange email accounts. You can make use of social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Picasa, Photobucket, and Twitter on Motorola Droid X. The home screen allows you to add messages widgets which will let you see your text messages and emails. You can also add social networking widget on the home screen to get update from all your buddies. The News widget helps you fetch latest news from Digg, Fox Sports, Reuters, and USA Today.

The 8MP autofocus camera with dual LED flash is excellent as it takes amazing photographs in any lighting conditions. It has got features like geo-tagging, 8 scene modes, and 8 color effects, face detection, etc. Videos can be recorded at 1280 x 720 pixels at 24 frames per second and also at lower resolutions at 30 frames per second. The stock Android 2.1 music player has got features like album art and equalizer presets. The sound through the loudspeaker was not loud enough and even the sound output through boxed headset was found to be good. We felt the same even when we listened to the FM Radio on the Motorola Droid X.

You can connect to the web on 3G at 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and at 2.0 Mbps HSUPA and also through WLAN. The Webkit browser has features like multitouch pinch-to-zoom, double tap for zooming, allows you to open 8 windows at a time, bookmarks and 3D side-to-side scrolling. The YouTube videos that are embedded on webpage are opened separately on the YouTube player. The other feature present on the phone includes Bluetooth and assisted GPS. The standard Li-Po 1540 mAh battery gives a talk time of 8 hours and over 9 days of stand-by time.
