Motorola FlipOut Review

After Sony released their two tiny Android powered phones – Xperia X10 mini and Xperia X10 mini Pro, now Motorola brings to you even quirkier phone – the Motorola FlipOut. The twist-out design of the phone is simply brilliant. It measures 67 x 67 x 17mm and weighs only 120g. It has got a TFT capactive touchscreen that measures 2.8 inches and has a display resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. It has capable of displaying 256k colors flawlessly. The display is slightly larger than the display of Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini Pro.

Below the display, you can find three capacitive Android buttons. Just above the display screen, you can find the phone speaker. The volume controller is located on the top side of the phone whereas the 3.5mm audio headset jack is located on the right side along with the display lock/power button. The microUSB slot is located at the bottom.  At the back, you can find a 3.1 megapixel camera with a self-portrait mirror and a loudspeaker. You can customize the phone by changing the back panel of the phone.

When you flip open the Motorola FlipOut, you will be able to see 5 row QWERTY keyboard that has also got a 4 way d-pad. The keys are raised well and help in providing you with decent typing speeds. You can make use of the on-screen Android keyboard. The phone is powered with Android 2.1 and MOTOBLUR UI. The internal memory of the phone is 150 MB and has got 512 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM. The phone comes with a 2GB memory card and can detect up to 32GB of microSD. Thanks to the 600 MHz processor, you will experience smooth performance while using the phone.

The 3.1 megapixel camera is able to capture decent images only if sufficient illumination is available. Even the quality of the recorded video is not that pleasing. You can playback videos of formats like MP4, H.264 and WMV on the Motorola FlipOut. Listening to music on this phone is quite a treat because the media player has a simple interface and plays formats like MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA and AMR. The sound output is also impressive.

The default Android web browser on Motorola FlipOut opens web pages in overview mode and gives different zooming options. You can connect to the web through WLAN and 3G at speeds of 7.2 Mbps on HSDPA and 2 Mbps on HSUPA. The 1130 mAH Li-Ion battery gives a standby time of over 375 hours on 3G and talk time of over 4 hours on 3G.
