Tips to Increase Samsung Galaxy S Battery Life

Do you feel that the battery of your Samsung Galaxy S is getting exhausted very quickly?  The Samsung Galaxy S runs on Android OS and functions like a computer. It has got loads of features. However, these features do eat up a lot of battery and you may feel like charging your phone quite often. To save your battery from running out before the day ends, you should use your phone’s features carefully. Just by tweaking a few things, you can make your battery last longer.

Here are some tips that can help you increase the battery life of Samsung Galaxy S.

Evaluate Your Battery Use
The Battery Use option on your phone lets you find out what is causing the battery to drain quickly.
You can access it by going into Settings > About Phone > Battery Use and go through the list mentioned there. It will list all the items that drain your battery such as Android System, Phone Idle, Cell Standby, Display and so on. If Display ranks at the top of the list, it means that the display is consuming a lot of battery. You should reduce the brightness of the phone.

Another example can be about the web browser on the phone. If the web browser is consuming lot of resources, you can quit multiple windows that you have kept open or you can quit pages that refresh automatically.

Stop External Connections
If you keep the Wi-Fi feature enabled whole day, the battery can die very soon. So, you should disable Wi-Fi when you are not using it. Also, if you are away from the access point and the phone is not able to connect the Wi-Fi network easily, it can consume a lot of battery as it will automatically try to connect to the network frequently.

If you are not using the GPS feature on the phone, it will be good if you turn it off as it eats up a lot of power. The reason why you need to turn it off is that it frequently communicates with the satellites to give you the exact positioning details. It would be wise if you use a power adapter while accessing GPS in your car when you are on a long journey.

Again, you should turn off the Bluetooth or Bluetooth device like Bluetooth handsfree, etc, if you are not using it.

Task Manager
Using a Task Manager app will let you kill all those processes or apps that is running unnecessarily.

Power Off When The Signal is Poor
The battery depletes faster in areas where signal is not good. In such situations, it is better to turn off the phone because the phone continuously searches for the network and if it does not finds one, it can exhaust the battery quickly.

Samsung Galaxy Indulge Review

Rating: ★★★½☆

Samsung adds another smartphone to the line of Samsung Galaxy series. The new Samsung Galaxy Indulge measures 132 x 61 x 15 mm and weighs 152g. It has got a slick and shiny plastic exterior that easily attracts dust and finger marks. The Galaxy Indulge comes with a 3.5 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display. It has got a display resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. The display comes with accelerometer sensor and proximity sensor.

Below the display of the Galaxy Indulge, you can find four buttons namely, menu, back, home and search. Sad thing is that these buttons are not back-lit which means you will have a tough time using these buttons in the dark. You find volume controller, display lock, power button, 3.5mm audio jack, microUSB slot and camera launcher on the sides of the phone. When you slide the display, you can access its very user-friendly QWERTY keyboard that comes with good feedback keys.

The Samsung Galaxy Indulge is powered by Android v2.2 decked up with Samsung’s very own TouchWiz user interface. You can choose from seven homescreens and add widgets on it. You can sync this phone with your accounts present on Google, Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Setting email accounts on this phone is also quite easy. The external memory of the phone can detect up to 32GB of memory and comes with 2GB microSD card.

The Galaxy Indulge’s 3.2MP camera is nothing special. The autofocus is sluggish and takes a few seconds to focus on a subject. Images that were taken appeared to be of mediocre quality. Takings snaps indoors is not advisable as it lacks a flash. You can record videos at 720 x 480 pixels resolution at 30fps. On the phone, you can watch videos of all the known video formats. The music player is a basic one and there is nothing much to talk about it. The output through the loudspeaker is disappointing as it has a mono speaker.

As far as internet connectivity is concerned you can use 3G at Rev. A up to 3.1 Mbps and also through WLAN. The web browser supports Flash content but appears to load heavy pages quite slowly. The Samsung Galaxy Indulge also supports assisted GPS. Lastly, the 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery gives a stand-by time of up to 300 hours and talk time of up to 3 hours.

Samsung Fascinate Review

The moment you see the Samsung Fascinate, you simply fall in love with this beautiful phone. It is the fourth Samsung Galaxy phone. It looks very similar to Samsung Vibrant that we reviewed last month. The Samsung Fascinate measures 125 x 64 x 10.5mm and weighs only 116g. The slim design and rounded edges truly makes it look amazing.

Like the other Galaxy phones from Samsung, even the Samsung Fascinate sports a Super AMOLED display screen that measures 4 inches. It has got a display resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and supports 16m colors. Below the display are the four touch-sensitive buttons for accessing Menu, Home, Back and Search. If you tour around the sides of the Samsung Fascinate, you will notice that there are hardly any buttons. The volume controller located on the left and the power/display lock button is on the right. The top houses the 3.5mm audio jack and microUSB port. Flip the phone to its back and you will find the 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash.

The Samsung Fascinate runs on Android 2.1 OS and it brings you even more customization options thanks to the TouchWiz 3.0 user interface. It allows you to add four important buttons on the screen (Phone, Contacts, Messaging and Applications) and it also lets you choose from 7 home screens. Moreover, it allows you to add host of custom widgets on the home screen. The internal memory of Samsung Fascinate is 2GB and 32GB of microSD can be used on its external memory. The phone comes with 16GB of microSD.

The Samsung Fascinate is a cool phone for social networking as it easily integrates Facebook contacts on the phonebook and it also lets you add events from your Facebook to the calendar of the phone. You can easily set up POP, IMAP and Exchange email accounts. Even though the Samsung Fascinate lacks physical keyboard, the virtual keyboard does well in providing you good error free typing. The Swype software lets you type even faster on this phone. Verizon’s IM app lets you get in touch with your buddies on Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live, Google Talk and AIM. The document viewer app lets you view and edit Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files.

The 5 megapixel autofocus camera snaps high resolution photographs with rich details. However, the single LED flash does not illuminate the subject well because of which you won’t be able to snap good pictures in dim lighting.  You can record HD videos at 720p at 30fps. The music player looks good and allows you to share songs through Bluetooth and email. The equalizer presets helps in producing impressive sound output. You can enjoy wide range of video formats such as 3GP, MP4, XviD and DivX on the beautiful Super AMOLED display of Samsung Fascinate.

You can connect to the web through 3G (Rev A up to 3.1 Mbps) and DLNA enabled WLAN. The Flash enabled WebKit Android web browser gives you hassle free browsing experience. It renders pages quickly and has got features like double-tap and multi-touch. You can make use of VZ Navigator and Google Maps for using the assisted GPS feature of Samsung Fascinate. The phone runs on Li-Po 1500 mAh standard battery. However, Samsung hasn’t yet disclosed the talk time and standby time of the battery on its official website but we reckon that it can give a talk time of over 6 hours and up to 12 days of standby time.
