Sony Ericsson Xperia arc Review

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 series phones though appeared to be promising at start but it disappointed buyers because of the many problems like battery life, performance and so on. So, Sony has released a newer version of Xperia phone – Xperia arc that not only looks sexy but also has features that can give its competitors a tough time. The phone measures 125 x 63 x 8.7mm and weighs 117g. The arched design of the phone makes it very comfortable to hold.

The display of the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc measures 4.2 inches. The LED-backlit capacitive touchscreen display has a display resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. Thanks to the award winning Bravia technology it uses on its display, the display appears quite bright and lively. However, we observed that the viewing angles are not that good as expected.

Below the display, you can find three physical Android buttons for navigation. Above the display is the proximity sensor. On the left is the 3.5mm audio port. On the top, you can see an HDMI port and the power button. On the top right corner, you can find the microUSB port along with a status LED. There is a thin volume controller and camera button down. At the rear, you can find the 8 megapixel camera.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia arc runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. The user interface on Xperia arc interacts in a whole new way with Android. Mediascape is missing whereas Timescape is still present. The 1 GHz Scorpion processor along with Adreno 205 GPU, 320MB internal memory and 512MB RAM, the performance gives you unmatched performance.

The 8MP autofocus camera with Exmor R sensor does well in taking high resolution photos but it cannot be compared with the quality that you get on Nokia N8. In low-lighting conditions, photos are of average quality. However, the LED flash does well in lighting up the surroundings up to 10 feet in distance. You can also shoot videos at 30fps. The music player appears to be flashy but has nothing much on its interface. You get ten equalizers, Track ID and shows up related YouTube videos. The sound through the loudspeaker is very impressive and loud. The video player does not support DivX/Xvid but can play other popular video formats seamlessly.

The Android browser of the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc is quite good for browsing on the web. Zooming, scrolling, and multitouch can be done with ease. It can play Flash content smoothly. You can connect on the web on 3G at 7.2Mbps HSDPA and 5.76Mbps HSUPA and also on Wi-Fi (supports DLNA). The 1500 mAh Li-Po battery gives a standby time of 400 hours on 3G and 7 hours of talk time on 3G.
