Nokia 700 Review

Rating: ★★★★☆

Nokia calls the new Nokia 700 is the most compact smartphone in terms of cubic inches. The phone measures 110 x 50.7 x 9.7mm and 50cc. The phone weighs only 96g and is available in wide range of colors such as cool grey, silver, white, coral red, peacock blue and purple.

Thanks to the form factor of Nokia 700, it is very easy to handle the phone with one hand. It has got a 3.2 inches display screen that has a display resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. The AMOLED capacitive touchscreen is very bright and gives above average clarity when viewed outside. You can find three physical buttons (call, menu and end) under the display.

On the right side of the Nokia 700, you can find the volume controller, display lock, and camera shutter key. When you press the display lock longer, you can turn on LED flash to use it as torch. On the left side, there are no controls. At the top, you can find charger slot, microUSD port and 3.5mm audio jack. At the back, you can find 5 MP camera.

The Nokia 700 runs on 1GHz processer and 512MB RAM. It has got an internal storage of 2GB. The external storage can store up to 32GB of microSD.  The newer version of Symbian called Belle can be seen on this phone. The phone comes with plenty of apps onboard namely QuickOffice, World Traveler, Shazam and games like Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja. Even though the screen is small, typing through the onscreen board is easy and the feedback is very nice.

The 5 megapixel fixed-focus camera is incapable of taking closer shots. The photos lack details and does not appear sharp. In low lighting conditions, the LED flash is not of much help as the images lack clarity. Videos of 720p can be recorded at 30fps. The music player app comes with equalizer presents and the output through frontal loudspeaker is quite impressive. The video player supports major video formats such as DivX and XviD.

The Belle browser present on the Nokia 700 comes with features like smooth scrolling, pinch-to-zoom, download manager, and RSS feed reader. However, poor thing is that it does not support Flash. The Flash Lite 4.0 will help in playing basic Flash content. On GSM network, you can browse on the web with speeds up to 14.4Mbps HDSPA and 5.76Mbps HSUPA. Other connectivity features on the Nokia 700 includes a-GPS, TV-out, and Bluetooth v3.0. The 1080mAh Li-Ion battery gives a standby time of up to 450 hours on 3G and talktime of over 4 hours on 3G.

T-Mobile has launched quite a few decent smartphones in the recent past and now it brings to you the new Nokia E73 Mode which is the successor phone to Nokia E72. The phone looks very similar to Nokia E72 and by all means appears to be top notch business phone. The phone measures 114 x 58 x 10 mm and weighs 128g. The TFT display of the phone measures 2.4 inches and has a display resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and is capable of displaying 16m colors. Below the display, you can find QWERTY keyboard which is exactly the one found on Nokia E72.

On the left side of the Nokia E73, you can find the microSD and microUSB port that can be used for connecting USB data cable for data transfer and charging the phone. On the top side of the phone, you can find the 3.5mm audio jack and power button. On the right side of the phone, you can find the volume controller and voice command button. Nokia 5530 XpressMusic Review

The first touch sensitive phone from Nokia – 5800 XpressMusic was an instant hit because it had all the features and came with an affordable price tag. The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is the second touch sensitive phone from Nokia. As compared to Nokia 5800, the Nokia 5530 is low on configuration. Even though the phone is not aesthetically beautiful, it looks very similar to Nokia 5800 and its build appears to be very solid and durable. The phone weighs 107g and measures 104 x 49 x 13mm.

The resistive touch screen display screen measures 2.9 inches which is less than the display size of Nokia 5800 which measures 3.2 inches. It has a display resolution of 360 x 640 pixels and is capable of displaying 16m colors. On the left side of the phone, you can find the microSD and SIM card slots and on the right there is a volume controller, display screen lock and camera launcher. On the top side of the phone, you can find the microUSB slot, 3.5mm audio jack, charger port and power button. At the rear, there is a camera with flash and stylus compartment.

The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is powered with Symbian s60 5th edition OS which can be found on Nokia 5800, Nokia N97, Samsung Omnia HD i8910 and Sony Ericsson Vivaz. The best part about this OS is that many new updates have been released in the recent past which also includes kinetic scrolling. On the home screen, there is a contact bar where you can add 20 contacts and you can scroll it by sliding a finger on it. You can also add 4 of your favorite apps on the home screen. Creating a text message or email is quite easy as it has got plenty of typing options such as full sized onscreen QWERTY keyboard, virtual alphanumeric keypad, and handwriting recognition.

The internal memory of the phone is 70MB and comes with a 4GB external microSD memory. The external memory can read up to 16GB of microSD.  The ARM 11 434Mhz processor brings about snappy performance. Data transfer can be done through USB and v2.0 Bluetooth. The music player has equalizer presets and lets you filter tracks by artist, album, playlist, etc. There is stereo FM radio with RDS. Sound quality through the loudspeaker is great but we did not like the boxed earphones. We recommend you to use your own 3.5mm earphone. You will love watching videos on this phone.

The interface of the 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash is the same as the one present on Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia N97. Snaps lack detail when taken in dim light and even though flash fires every time you take snap in dim light. Snaps taken in bright light are passable. Captured videos are good and the clarity of the sound on captured videos is great.

The limited Flash supported internet browser is the same that is found in Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia N97. The pages load fast and you can tap on the screen twice to zoom into the page. You can connect to the web through GPRS and WLAN only; this means there is no 3G feature on this phone. There is no GPS feature on this phone. The standard Li-Ion 1000 mAh battery gives a standby time of over 300 hours and nearly 5 hours of talk time and since it is a music phone, it lets you enjoy continuous music for up to 27 hours.

Here you have it – FingerPrint application for Symbian phones!

Okay, this doesn’t really turn your Symbian phone into a fingerprint scanner. We all know that it is impossible, right? This trick application can really pull a fast one on your friends when you demostrate to them how you can unlock your phone with this fingerprint scanner.
