Everything You Need to Know About 4G

Verizon, Sprint, and  T-Mobile are all providing their subscribers 4G internet connectivity. When we used 3G internet connection on out phone, we felt that it is the fastest internet connectivity that one can avail on their smartphone. However, the 4G network has turned out to be even faster. So let us try to understand more about 4G.

What is 4G?
4G stands for fourth generation wireless. This technology enables you to do VOIP, internet browsing, play games and stream HD videos. Before 4G, 2G and 3G wireless were known to the people. 2G is all about switching from analog to digital transmissions. This technology brought to the world facilities like sending and receiving SMS and email on their phone. 3G technology brought features like global roaming, video calling, sharing the same data network with others and high speed web connectivity. The average speed that you can avail through 3G can range from 600 kilobytes per second to 1.4Megabytes per second. When you compare 3G with 4G, you will be able to achieve the same but with more speed and bandwidth.

According to ITU (International Telecommunication Union), 4G is fast paced internet connection that offers speeds of 100Mbps whichever place you go. This is high mobility for 4G. When it comes to low mobility which means Wi-Fi range, you can get up to 1Gbps speed. However, most of the cellular network service provider’s 4G speeds do not come any close.

Here are some of the technologies that are available in United States. You should be aware of it because these technologies are made available as 4G:

1. WiMax
WiMax is nothing but an extension of Wi-Fi connection which means it offers high speed wireless web connection on a wide range of devices. Sprint is offering this service as 4G which offers 128Mbps HDSPA and 56Mbps HSUPA.

2. LTE (Long Term Evolution)
This is the 4G service offered by Verizon which offers 100Mbps HDSPA and 50Mbps HSUPA. The LTE service cannot be actually called 4G but exclusively refers to 3GPP LTE. LTE Advanced which is yet to launch may meet the 4G standards by offering HSDPA of 1Gbps.

3. HSPA+ (Evolved High Speed Packet Access)
HSPA+ is the 4G service offered by T-Mobile. Sprint and Verizon offers the same service as 3G data. Even though HSPA+ offers high speed connectivity, the speed is much less as compared to LTE and WiMax as it offers 56Mbps HSUPA and 22Mbps HSDPA.

The accelerometer sensor automatically rotates the display of the phone horizontally or vertically. The proximity sensor feature turns off the display when the phone is held near your face while answering a call so that you do not accidently press any touch sensitive feature. The Kin OS is specially designed for users who are hooked on to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. The Nvidia Tegra platform 600Mhz processor makes sure that the performance of the phone is fast. However, the phone does freezes occasionally. Nokia 7705 Twist Review

Verizon brings to Nokia 7705 which is one of the smallest phones that is available in the market. Nokia has named it Twist because there is a hidden keyboard that twists out. This phone has been released by Nokia to give competition to phones like Samsung Alias 2 and LG enV3. It measures only 69 x 69 x 15 mm and weighs 98g. The QVGA display measures 2.4 inches and has a display resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and supports 262k colors. The light sensor automatically adjusts the brightness of the display depending on the lighting conditions.

Below the display, you can find a square d-pad and it is surrounded by touch-sensitive soft keys and clear key. There is an LED at the front of the Nokia 7705 that flashes 6 different colors and blinks whenever you get a message or a missed call. On the sides of the phone, you can find the volume controller, microUSB port, microSD card slot, 2.5mm audio headset jack and external speaker. At the rear, the phone houses the 3 megapixel camera with flash and when you open the phone, you will find a large mirror.

The QWERTY keyboard has been designed well and has got 5 rows of keys and special buttons for launching the browser, voice command, camera, speaker phone and messaging. Even though the keys are small, they are really user-friendly and you will make not make many efforts while using it. The Habitat mode present on the Nokia 7705 brings you two home screens namely, Super World and Urban Jungle. Both home screens shows you an icon of your contact that you have recently spoken to.

We were surprised to find a 3 megapixel camera on the Nokia 7705 Twist. Not only this, it has got a flash too. However, the images that were taken through were not that impressive. The music player can be played in the background and the sound through the mono speaker was nothing special. The phone can detect 16GB of external memory and has an internal memory of 119MB.

The HTML browser on the phone does not give a good browsing experience as the phone has a very small screen. It does not play embedded YouTube videos; however, the YouTube videos can be viewed through the YouTube site. Some other apps present on the phone include VZ Navigator for GPS, VCast Music and VCast Videos. You can also download plenty of games and applications over the web for this phone. The standard Li-Ion 860 mAh battery gives a talk time of 4.5 hours and standby time of 11 hours.

HTC Droid Incredible Review – Incredible Desire

The HTC Droid Incredible is an Android phone that has been made available through Verizon Wireless. The long awaited Droid Incredible was expected to look good, however we came to realize that there is nothing remarkable about the looks of the phone. We expected the phone to have some sort of futuristic appeal; however the phone looks quite mundane. When you hold the phone in your hand, you will realize that the quality of construction is nothing special. The phone weighs only 130 grams and measures 4.63 x 2.30 x 0.47 inches.

Many people who have made use of this phone feel that the phone is very similar to HTC Desire. The AMOLED capactive touchscreen display is able to display 16M colors at 480 x 800 pixels. It supports multi-touch and measures 3.7 inches. The accelerometer feature responds well in turning the display horizontal or vertical as and when you turn your phone horizontal or vertical. The proximity sensor feature of the phone automatically turns off the display of the phone. The display was found to be faded in bright sunlight. The accelerometer and proximity sensor are located above the screen.

Under the display, you can find Android’s standard touch sensitive buttons. These buttons truly enhance the beauty of the phone. The trackball functions well and responses well. The power button is located at the top and on the right you can find the volume controller. At the top, you will find a 3.5mm audio headset jack. The microUSB is located on the left side of the phone. At the rear, you can find the 8 megapixel camera provided with LED dual flash.

The best part about HTC Droid Incredible is that it comes with the latest version of the Sense user interface which runs on top of the Android 2.1 OS. Thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz processor, the phone functions incredibly quickly. The internal memory of the phone is 8GB and is provided with an external memory that can detect up to 16GB of microSD. The 8 megapixel camera takes stunning photos and records videos at high resolution. Both the video and audio players detect and play a wide range of video and audio formats.

You can connect to the web through Wi-Fi and 3G (HSDPA – 7.2Mbps and HSUPA – 2Mbps). Like other HTC phones such as Desire and Legend, even HTC Droid Incredible has a Flash powered web browser. You can make use of microUSB and v2.1 Bluetooth with A2DFP for data transfer.  The GPS application that you can find on this phone is Google Maps version 4. The 1300 mAh battery gives a talk time of 5.21 hours and stand-by time of 146 hours.

HTC DROID ERIS Review

droid-erisHTC Droid ERIS is Android powered phones from Verizon. This phone looks quite similar to the cousin phone – Sprint’s HTC Hero. Both HTC Hero and HTC DROID ERIS have the specs. However, the display screen of the DROID ERIS displays 262K as compared to 65K of Hero. The phone is often compared to another Android powered phone – the Motorola DROID. The Motorola DROID is a better phone as it has  3.7 inches display with a display resolution of 480 x 854 pixels.

HTC DRIOD ERIS has a 3.2 inch capactive touchscreen with a display resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. Above the display, you can find a sensor that automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen depending on the surrounding light level. When you keep the phone near your face while talking to someone, this sensor automatically turns off the display. The display fades when you view the display outside under the direct sunlight. Below the display, you can find the touch-sensitive buttons such as Home, Menu, Back and Search. Below these buttons, you can find the standard physical buttons such as Send, End/Lock/Power and a trackball.

The only button that you will find on the side of the phone is the volume controller.  On the top of the phone, you can find the 3.5mm audio jack and at the bottom there is a miniUSB port. At the back, you can find the autofocus 5 megapixel camera without a flash. In order to access the microSD card, you will have to remove the battery. The phone is supplied with a 8GB card and it can easily read a 16GB card.  One major difference between HTC DRIOD ERIS and Motorola DROID is that the former lacks a sliding QWERTY keyboard. However,  the phone has a virtual keyboard which is easy to use and is kept simple.HTC-Droid-Eris-01

The HTC DRIOD ERIS is powered with 1.5 version of Android OS and it provides you with 7 home screens to choose from. Each home screen can be customized by installing widgets, shortcuts and by creating folders. While opening any application, the phone lags a bit. When you hit the Search button, it will launch Google Search bar on which you can search either by writing text or through voice and the search results are based on your GPS location. The PIM apps found on this phone are alarm, world clock, stopwatch and countdown timer and lacks notes and tasks. You can visit the Android Market site and download the apps that you desire.

The 5 megapixel camera is neat and takes beautiful pictures but since it lacks flash, the images are not very clear. You can record videos at 352 x 288 pixels. All the popular music file formats can be played on the music player. You can connect to the net via Wi-Fi and 3G. The WebKit based browser with Flash Lite 3.7.1 gives a cool browsing experience. However, you will not be able to play YouTube videos directly but play them through HTC media player. The phone comes with v2.0 Bluetooth that can be used for transferring files and for listening to music. The Li-Ion 1300 mAh battery gives a talk time of 3.56 hours and 373 hours of standby time.
