Sony Ericsson Yendo Review

The Sony Ericsson Yendo is very good looking phone and it looks very similar to the Sony Xperia X10 mini and mini pro phones. However, the main difference the Yendo and Xperia series phones is that the Yendo does not have a smartphone platform. Instead, it comes with proprietary Sony Ericsson platform. This phone is also branded as a Walkman phone. The phone is available in wide range of colors such as black, blue, green, orange, pink, purple, red, silver, white, and yellow.

The design is compact and it is completely made up of plastic. It feels good to hold this phone. It measures 93.5 x 52 x 15.5 mm. The Yendo comes with a 2.6 inch capacitive display screen that has a display resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. The resolution is quite low but still manages to give good viewing angles.

Below the screen, you can find only one button – a back key. On the left side of the phone, you will find microUSB port. On the right side of the phone, you can find a volume controller. On the top, there is a power/display lock button along with the 3.5mm audio headset jack. At the rear, there is a 2 megapixel camera without flash. Once you remove the back panel, you can get access to the battery, microSD card and the SIM card slot.

Yendo’s user interface resembles that of X10 mini phone. It allows you to place widgets on the homescreen but only the basic ones. You can widgets like notes and music player. On the home screen, there are four shortcuts namely Walkman player, messaging, dialer, and phonebook. Through the main menu, you can access all the apps present on your phone.

The 2 megapixel camera is very basic one. There are only two camera options namely, a shutter and still/video switch. Since there are no flash, images taken in low lighting condition lacks clarity. The Walkman music player is pretty decent. It comes with Track ID and voice recorder. The sound output is good. The phone runs on a slow processor 156MHz and it comes with 5MB internal memory. The microSD slot can read up to 16GB of memory.

The only way you can connect to the web is GPRS EDGE. The web browser is very simple and scrolling is quite slow. It comes with Bluetooth which supports A2DP profile. The Li-Po 970 mAh battery gives a standby time of 312 hours and talk time of over 3 hours.

Sony Ericsson Spiro Review

Sony Ericsson Spiro is the new walkman series phone. It is a compact phone with not so impressive specifications. The phone measures 92 x 48 x 16.8mm and weighs only 90g. The size is so small that it can easily fit inside your pocket. It has got a TFT screen that measures 2.2 inches which is capable of displaying 256k colors at a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.

Below the display of the Sony Ericsson Spiro phone, you can find the d-pad surrounded by the usual soft keys. All the keys are very small and you may end up pressing the buttons accidentally. On the left side of the phone, you can find the microUSB port whereas on the right there is a volume controller. At the top, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack. At the rear, you can find the 2 megapixel camera without flash. You can slide the display upwards to access the numpad.

The internal memory of the phone is just 5 MB and the external memory can detect up to 16GB of microSD. The user interface is pretty simple but is quite snappy. You can make use of Facebook and Twitter application on the phone. You can setup major email accounts simply by inputting the email address and password.

The 2 megapixel camera is incapable of taking good quality snaps. Since there is no flash present for the camera, the images taken indoors also clarity. The quality of the recorded video is so poor that you won’t feel like using the video capture feature. It allows you to record at 176 x 144 resolution at 15fps. The Photo Gallery lets you access all your photos snapped by means of the camera, web album, Facebook albums, etc.

The Walkman music player allows you to filter songs by selecting various options such as genre, artist, and album and so on. The audio output through the loudspeaker is pretty decent. The boxed 3.5mm earphones are truly the USP of the phone. The equalizer settings help in producing even more pleasant sound output.

You can perform data transfer through Bluetooth and microUSB. There is no 3G and WLAN feature on this phone which means you can connect to the web only through GPRS. The 100 mAh Li-Polymer battery of Sony Ericsson Spiro allows you to play continuous music for over 20 hours.
