LG Fathom VS750 Review

When all the world is waiting for Windows Phone 7 devices, LG has managed to release first Windows Mobile device for Verizon – LG Fathom VS750. The phone’s look won’t impress you; however its durability can be felt through its plastic construction. The corner and edges are slightly curved. The phone measures 115 x 56 x 17mm and weighs 152 which is slightly on the bulky side. It has got a 3.2 inches TFT resistive touchscreen that is capable of displaying 256k colors at a display resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. It is not easy to view the display under bright sunlight.

Below the display of LG Fathom, you can find three physical buttons namely, Send, Start (Menu) and End. On the sides of the phone you can find the usual buttons such as volume controller, microUSB port for data transfer, reset button, 3.5mm audio jack, task manager key, camera shutter button, power/display lock button, microSD card slot. The 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera is located behind with the external speaker. Sliding the display will reveal the 4-row QWERTY keyboard. The keys are placed in straight rows and you will find it easy to use for comfortable typing.
The LG Fathom runs on Windows Mobile Professional 6.5.3 OS. You can add frequently used apps to the homescreen. The phone is powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz processor. It has got 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM and the external memory can detect up to 16GB of microSD. The phone is shipped with 4GB microSD. You can use the Windows Mobile Email app for setting up POP, IMAP and Exchange email accounts. The Verizon IM app can be used to go online on your favorite messengers such as AIM, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger. However, you are charged every time you send and receive message.

The LG Fathom VS750 has got the new Microsoft Bing application for searching GPS maps, driving directions, traffic update, etc. You can use the Verizon VZ Navigator app for GPS navigation. There are no social networking apps on the phone but they can be downloaded from Windows Marketplace. The Office Mobile lets you view all kinds of office documents.

The 3.2 megapixel camera has got plenty of options and simple interface. It takes about 4 seconds to focus on an image and more seconds for capturing and saving the image. Since the camera lacks flash, the quality of the images is poor when taken in dim lighting conditions. You can record videos at 640 x 480 resolution at 20fps. LG Fathom allows you to surf on the web at 3G speeds of 7.2Mbps on HSDPA and WLAN. The phone lacks radio. The standard 1500 mAh Li-Po battery gives a standby time of over 450 hours and talk time of nearly 7 hours.

HTC HD Mini Review – The Last Phone to Use Windows Mobile 6.5

HTC-HD-mini-Windows-PhoneIt has been officially declared that the HTC HD Mini is the last smartphones to have the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Professional operating system. Hence, we are skeptical as to how this phone is going to compete with other smart phones that are powered with famous operating systems like Android and Symbian. Since this phone has been named Mini, we need how mini is this phone. As per the specification, the dimension of the phone is 103.8 x 57.7 x 11.7 mm and weighs only 110g.

HTC HD Mini has a display screen of 3.2 inches is capable of display a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. The touchscreen supports multi-touch. The accelerometer automatically rotates the screen when you rotate your phone horizontally and vertically. The issue with the display is that you will not be able to see it clearly when you view it under sunlight.

The phone is powered with Qualcomm 7227 600 MHz processor and you will not experience slowness while using the phone. The internal memory of the phone is 384MB and the external memory of the phone can read up to 32GB. The homescreen of the phone is divided into several tabs through which you can launch apps from the homescreen. The onscreen keyboard allows you to type messages easily.

The phone comes with 5 megapixel camera without a flash. Snaps look amazing, however since the flash is missing, snaps do not appear to be clear when taken in a darker environment. You can record videos at 28fps. The music player is quite simple and sound through the ear phone is quite enjoyable. However, the loudspeaker’s output is below average.HTC-HD-Mini_1

The memory card is located under the battery which means if you want to access memory card, you will have to remove the battery. The web browser, Internet Explorer loads web pages quickly and you will face no problems in opening and navigating through websites. However, the only issue with the web browser is that it does not support Flash. To watch YouTube videos, you can launch the YouTube client application and enjoy online videos.

HTC HD Mini also has other features like Office Mobile suite, stereo FM with RDS, assisted GPS, and v2.0 Bluetooth. HTC HD Mini can also be used a Wi-Fi router. The battery life of the phone is quite impressive as it gives up to 500 hours of battery life on 3G and up to 7 hours of talk time.
