Sony Ericsson Xperia arc Review

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 series phones though appeared to be promising at start but it disappointed buyers because of the many problems like battery life, performance and so on. So, Sony has released a newer version of Xperia phone – Xperia arc that not only looks sexy but also has features that can give its competitors a tough time. The phone measures 125 x 63 x 8.7mm and weighs 117g. The arched design of the phone makes it very comfortable to hold.

The display of the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc measures 4.2 inches. The LED-backlit capacitive touchscreen display has a display resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. Thanks to the award winning Bravia technology it uses on its display, the display appears quite bright and lively. However, we observed that the viewing angles are not that good as expected.

Below the display, you can find three physical Android buttons for navigation. Above the display is the proximity sensor. On the left is the 3.5mm audio port. On the top, you can see an HDMI port and the power button. On the top right corner, you can find the microUSB port along with a status LED. There is a thin volume controller and camera button down. At the rear, you can find the 8 megapixel camera.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia arc runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. The user interface on Xperia arc interacts in a whole new way with Android. Mediascape is missing whereas Timescape is still present. The 1 GHz Scorpion processor along with Adreno 205 GPU, 320MB internal memory and 512MB RAM, the performance gives you unmatched performance.

The 8MP autofocus camera with Exmor R sensor does well in taking high resolution photos but it cannot be compared with the quality that you get on Nokia N8. In low-lighting conditions, photos are of average quality. However, the LED flash does well in lighting up the surroundings up to 10 feet in distance. You can also shoot videos at 30fps. The music player appears to be flashy but has nothing much on its interface. You get ten equalizers, Track ID and shows up related YouTube videos. The sound through the loudspeaker is very impressive and loud. The video player does not support DivX/Xvid but can play other popular video formats seamlessly.

The Android browser of the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc is quite good for browsing on the web. Zooming, scrolling, and multitouch can be done with ease. It can play Flash content smoothly. You can connect on the web on 3G at 7.2Mbps HSDPA and 5.76Mbps HSUPA and also on Wi-Fi (supports DLNA). The 1500 mAh Li-Po battery gives a standby time of 400 hours on 3G and 7 hours of talk time on 3G.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Review – First Android Phone from Sony Ericsson

XPERIA X10 is the first phone from Sony Ericsson that is powered with Android OS. It is one of the most awaited phones from Sony Ericsson. The features of the phone are such that there is no other phone in the market that can rival this phone. It is a bulky phone as it has a display screen that measures 4 inches. You will find it very difficult to handle the phone with one hand. The rear of the phone is slightly curved and it weighs 139g.

The 4 inch TFT touchscreen display has a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels and can display 65k colors. It has a scratch resistant surface. The accelerometer of the phone functions quite well and rotates the display when you hold the phone in horizontal or vertical manner. The display is very clear under direct sunlight. However, the display does not support multi-touch.

The buttons that are present on the front side of the phone below the display include main menu, home screen and back. At the top, there is a microUSB port which can be used to connect to a PC to charge the phone. You can also find a 3.5mm audio headset jack next to the microUSB port. On the right side of the phone, you can find the volume controller and camera launcher. The phone has a very high performing processor – Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon 1 GHz processor. The internal memory of the phone is 1GB and comes with a 8GB card and can detect an external memory of up to 16GB.

The Android OS version 1.6 present on Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 really disappointed us because most of the Android powered phones in the market are available with version 2.0. The Timespace app is a combo of personal diary and social networking software which will help you in getting the latest updates from famous social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. The Mediaspace app lets you view and play all your video, audio and pictures from one screen. There is no radio in this phone.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 is also the first Android handset to sport 8.1 megapixel camera with features like autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, image stabilization, geo-tagging, face and smile detection. The snaps taken through this phone were found to be very rich in details and colors.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10’s onscreen QWERTY keyboard can be switched to portrait or landscape mode for writing text messages and emails. You can surf the web at 10.2Mbps HSDPA and through Wi-Fi. The default browser present on the phone is a standard Android web browser and does not support Flash. The YouTube player lets you play online videos. The Wisepilot is the app that can be used for GPS on this phone. For data transfer you can make use of Bluetooth and microUSB. It gives a standby time of up to 425 hours on 3G and talk time of 8 hours on 3G.
